To patch a non-connected machine with SDC, you need to install SDC on a connected machine, download and archive the game (you can download direct to archive if you are not allowed to install games there, but you would need to redownload the entire game for subsequent patches as well if you do that). Then you just need to get the archive file and the SDC installer and burn them to a disc or copy to a USB drive and take them home to install there. <br

Not to mention the Food Distribution Center, or a couple of the 'Hyperion' buildings, or the nerfed manufacturing capital, or the fusion... need I go on? The Fusion Power Plants etc. are good for planets that are being supplied by an asteroid field. They will boost the production from that source as well, not just your Factories.

Or the Galactic Guidebook, or Planetary Defenses, or the Orbital Fleet Manager, or Fertility Clinics. Fertility Clinics can be useful if you have a planet that's exclusively producing Troop Tranports. They can use up quite a bit of your population so it would be good to replenish it as quickly as possible, especialy if it's also high production planet and pumping out transports every few turns.

Dark Avatar updates will be through Stardock Central. Stardock Central can download a file and archive it to be moved to a non-Internet based connection. Since I can't install Stardock Central on this public system, that doesn't do me alot of good. Does anyone have the file that they could email me?

So where the hell is the file to download like I used to be able to? My computer isn't connected to the internet and I'm using a public system to go online, so installing Stardock is not an option. In vanilla GalCiv2 there used to be a standalone file here that I could download, and then activate the game after through email. But there's no link at all now. I'm feeling a bit ripped off here after having to purchase the original game again just to play the expansion.

Maybe a "rumour" function tied to diplomacy skills, that let you wreck relations short of paying them off to wage war (Id like to see that much more difficult to do...even without super diplo or super manipulator, its far too easy and effective, sustainable indefinitely with no cooldowns in between wars). Your race would say "I heard the Torians like to eat Arcean Babies...", and the Arceans would believe you or not based on your diplo ski

I really like the new Asteroid Fields, they not only add a dynamic to colony management, but they make the galaxy seem more realistic. But there's a couple of other astronomical entities that I think would also fit in well with the game. The first would be Black Holes. No ships can travel within 1 parsec of one, they would have to go around. And of course no Stars/Planets etc. could exist within one parsec either. Two would probably be more realistic. And then there's Nebula.

The ships you begin the game with (survey, colony, miner) are *always* going to be identical for everyone. You can change their equipment in GC2Ships.xml, but again, that would change them for everyone. You cannot make a race that has better equipped versions than others short of using a custom map/scenario. OK, now that actually makes sense. I guess I'd have to do some upgrading no matter what. If you want to totally

Right now there isn't a way that I know of to tone down the value the AI assigns to techs on a per AI basis. There may be some under the hood type coding in the AI itself that adjusts how it values things but we can't change that yet. Well the fact that some races won't trade weapons technologies with you because they feel that would make you too powerful indicates that there is some sort of mechanism in place to limit trading. Whether it can be adjuste

Because that would be irrelevant because you are going to select your own ships from the templates in the shipyard anyway. It's redundant. No it's not. I find it annoying having to obsolete the default ships as they come up. I would much rather that my own designs would appear instead, it means that much less micromanagement. Plus I'm using the ability bonus script that came with the 1.2 example mod, the one that allows points to be used for minaturizat

So I've figured out how to make a new style but I can't seem to to be able to use it with my custom race. Although it appears in the menu list, the ship designs just default to the original ship style, in this case Terran. Is it simply not possible for the player to use a custom style, or is there some step involved in making it work?

We now have these expensive terraforming techs that we can trade to the Minor Races for several techs and a bunch gold, even though they have absolutely no use for them. It seems to me that we should only be able to trade those techs to the other major races since they're the ones that are being expansionist and will actually use them. Granted the minor races can turn around and trade them to the major races, but logically they wouldn't even be interested in them in the first place.

I created a new ship style in the opponent screen, but I can't use it for myself for my custom race. Although the option is there, the ships look exactly the same as the Terran ones, which is what I started out with. It seems kind of pointless to have these ship style options when we can't even use them ourselves.

Cool! So can these custom races also be saved and used in later games? It might make for some interesting games if we had two factions for each race on a random pick. Sometimes both factions would be in the game and be busy fighting each other, while in other game there'd only be the one. I'll have to check that feature out for sure.

So is it possible to have two versions of the same species and have them perpetually hate each other? For instance, the Terrans at some point had a civil war so there are two factions of them in the universe. They can't stand each other and are always at war. Kind of like the aliens in the Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri XP, Crossfire.

I'm reading various posts, and people are lamenting the fact that they can't order Dark Avatar online because they don't have a credit card. I have a possible solution if you live in the U.S. or Canada- the Visa Gift Card. Or just get the GalCiv Gold edition at your local retailer, which will include both the original game and Dark Avatar. There'

DA will be available at retail in the US as part of GalCiv2 Gold, which will contain both GC2 and DA, with a $10 mail-in-rebate for existing owners of GC2 (which brings the price down equivalent to the DA-only-direct-from-Stardock version). Ahh, that's good to know. Not having a credit card and a bad rating, I was wondering how I was going to get

4. Surrender -- I was playing a builder style hiding out in my corner of the map, when suddenly, two civs surrendered to me that I had only barely contacted. I had never traded with them and hardly had any contact with them. I assume that they were being demolished in wars with other civs and my relations were higher than other civs, but it seemed really bizzare at the tim

Look for Kryo's Hull System mod in the Library, that's all you're going to need. With it, you can mix and match any hull type to create whatever you want. It uses blank hulls which are only a hardpoint which you add fake hulls to. All the hulls in the game are available as jewelry so you can combine them together, and you're not restricted to using small hulls on a small fake hull. They're automatically scaled to the initial blank hull. There's also some offset hard points so you can easily merg
