Soulcatcher, are you a fan of the Black Company books? Or did you get the handle elsewhere? I've been using it as a handle for so long that I guess I just kind of eventually made it my own. But it was also the title of a book by Frank Herbert, which is where I got it. Why do they on

I haven't played it but I'm guessing that if it was impossible to beat the scenario, it would not have been included. And look at the bright side: people are always complaining about the game being too easy to beat--you don't have that problem. Have you miniaturized all you can, and gotten up to your max logistics? If you have the ability to cram l
I have an idea, for what it's worth: if you turn off all victory options but conquest....it might be a fairly good idea to build some warships, since you have no other hope of victory from turn 1 on. Since you've left yourself no alternative but to fight, if you're not ready to fight when war comes...you should take a well-earned loss and learn from it.
Since people are comparing the AI to that of Civ 4, I'll weigh in too. I've played countless games of Civ 4 & I think the GalCiv2 AI is much better in general. It was not hard at all to beat Civ4 even when the AI was given an advantage, and they made no attempt to improve their AI after the game was released. Don't get me wrong, I loved Civ 4, but in my opinion it takes a distant second place to this game. Even though we all have our personal "wi
Some ideas are just bad. And this is one of them.
Just a few thoughts: I liked Civ4 fine, but I'll probably never play it again now that I have GC2. I don't find the races to be alike at all & I enjoy their differences in playstyle and abilities. The latest version is a great update & the AI is very much improved. The Drath are (as someone else said) never very powerful and never a threat...so let them have their bonuses and be happy while you dominate them. The Torians (and the other races) do
The number of starbases seems to be limited (by logistics ability?). It seems I can only grab, say, 4 resource points and build another few starbases around my planets before the game refuses to let me build more or wants to charge me 500 bc each to build them. Could someone explain what's up with this, please? I've had the game for a couple weeks or so but I can't quite figure this out, since it seems we should be able to build all the starbases
"As for typing in the long registration number, I would reccomend typing it into notepad or similar and using Copy/Paste." So you're saying I should do it the easy way instead of the hardest way possible? You're right--I thought I'd updated my Firefox but I grabbed an old version or something...it worked fine with the new one. This game tru
Well, it's not working for me either. I'm using the latest version of Firefox but the "processing data" problem is all I can get. I've tried many times over the past week, until I'm quite sick of typing in that godawful-long reg #, but no luck. Any other ideas?
1) A serial number less than 380 chars long, since I've had to type it out about 30 times by now (and still can't get a char registered on metaverse). 2) Each planet should have a triple slider for economy, not just the governors. This would make more sense and work much better for the game, as well as enhance our ability to make and utilize dedicated worlds such as research planets, etc. 3) We should not be able to fly a huge fleet up to an
I play on Tough or Painful. The problem I have with the AI is that it sometimes does things that don't make sense, even in game terms. I've flown up to the Thalan capital after 2 1/2 years of game time to find an anomoly within a few spaces of it (the AI should have picked it up long ago) and no military whatsoever...I could have conquered their whole empire with one laser scout & some transports. I am not complaining about the AI and I know it's
