Raven, have you played with Dominions 3? If yes, what is your opinion about SCs [super combattants] in the game? Basically SCs are super-powered champs. I had no problems with SCs in Doms 3. It was a valid tactic to create & use them. They were capable of destroying whole armies alone, but they were not unbeatable, IE. the game itself was not imbalanced because of the SCs.
Quite true. In fact the accr
Well, you'd have to get all the expansion packs. Civ 4 in my opinion was a bit of a bust until Beyond the Sword came out. That plus a massive amount of moddability (the glory of Python) really made the game great. If you liked Civ 2, Civ 4 is a truly great game for you. Planetfall really does have the "feel" of Alpha Centauri (that almost undescribable attribute that was why I loved SMAC). It isn't quite finished yet (the two alien factions aren't in yet, and pol
Oh yeah, and SMAC2. I'm really looking forward to that one. And I'm just as confident it'll come out this year as I have been the past several. I mean, it's been so long since SMAX and it is just too damn good not to get a sequel, right?
In the meantime, you may want to check out the "planetfall" mod for Civ 4:BtS, over on Civfanatics. It should help tide you over.
HOI3 is running pretty smooth with the semper fi expansion... you might want to revisit it..
Yeah, I'm tracking, and I'm sure the next HOI3 expansion will make things even better. It is just that while I'm used to paradox games being broken AI wise upon release, and that two expansions later will be when it is finally a mostly finished game (usually with a mod), I do have the expectation that my relatively
I mean, good grief guys, we had people screaming because there were tough creatures spawning in their starting locations and those creatures don't even target anyone in particular yet. It would be a riot if a player's 10 hour long game ends because the AI somehow managed to build up to a single mega unit that teleported itself to your capital, dispelled your protection enchantments and then volcano'd it.
Not really, no. How is the Futurama episode when they go back in time and do cooky stuff to try and preserve time in any way satirical? How does it poke fun at politics when it doesn't have any in the show? I can maybe think of a mere handful of episodes where there was "some" politics, but not anywhere near a central theme of the episode. How does it poke up at celebrities when it basically has none? They had some homage episodes to

Just how powerful would a champion have to be in order to be worth 1000 troops that also count as 1? Of course that's really just another problem with stack/army size limits.
Which is why a separate limit should be used for champions, researchable in the adventure tree.
Something else that always annoyed me is that players expect a fair AI that beats them on higher levels. What they are almost asking for in that case is a computer program that is more intelligent than a human being... Which has been said to be one of the possible causes for the singularity. Or Skynet. Point being its nearly impossible. Give me a cheating but fun AI and I'll look for fairness in MP I say!
A few things

From the sounds of it, in addition to mods, expansion of the spellbook will be officially supported. So I'm sure that some kind of vetting system for created spells will be created to determine what makes it in to "official" elemental spellbooks, and what will remain mods.
This has me curious now. So, are you saying a "Single Unit" can only have 20 "Individual Soldiers" ? And if so, can we change that with modding? If we can only have 20 "Units" and each of those Units can only show 20 Soldiers at a time, then 20 x 20 = 400. 400 Soldiers isn't very big for a maximum army size. Am I understanding that right? Basically what I'm asking, is by the End Game, how many Individual Soldi

Now, you can also hire Lore masters (by building monasteries and abbeys) to help increase this as well but your wisdom is what will ultimately make up a big part of it. A player that decides to crank up their other stats and lower wisdom to 5 is unlikely to be able to ever win through spell casting. Kind of depends for how city assaults are done in tactical battles I think. If gates matter, then gate placement matters.
