Since we're talking about, effectively, making combat last longer so that spells have more effect (in direct opposition to a stated design choice by SD where they wanted battles to be short), let's talk about that spell timing. IMO, most spells should have a casting time. To me, what that means is to have a HoMM style stack "push" when you start your spell; that unit gets pushed in the stack to a later point, when they complete the spell. How long the spell tak

I wonder if it has anything to do with the amount of product they already have. If they have a lot of money, they may not value your money at exactly 1:1; they may view it as less valuable. If they had little of it, however, they may value it more? I'm just guessing, I haven't played with Diplo very much.

Great improvements to gameplay so far; really good design choices, congratulatios! As a suggestion, you might think about using fame to promote heroes (1 fame point per exp) for the commander/governor cast (and any others, for that matter, but combat exp will surely swamp the fame based stuff). Now you have a tradeoff; do I level up my few heroes, or try to attract a new one and increase my ranks?

Okay, I think we're confusing lead, found in paints from the 50's as an additive, and lead/lead oxide sealed gel electrolyte cells, which is in bulk solid form, non respirable, and is a straightforward recylable metal (and in fact, most is). However, this does point out why I've by and large stopped coming to these forums, which is people will argue with just about anything, even when folks are trying to be helpful. You have my recommendation; best of luck to you.

The guy's running a 20kW panel set, likely Si SC based; they're throwaway with a ~15 year life. P/N junctions are likely B/P junctions, which means a Diborane/Phosgene implant somewhere in China. Pb-PbO2 plates are largely recyclable, especially with gelled electrolytes; dendritic growth is minimized, so no Pb shavings to deal with. My little cell pack ain't the environmental no-no in this scenario. ;)

Deep cycle Pb-PbO2 cell array. Ask an electrician to come set up the pan and inverters for you. You'll need to pour a cement pad (1000 lbs of cells here), and you'll likely want to build a small building or enclosure around the station. I'm guessing you're in for 100kW-hr/day type of usage, so 5 of these puppies will set you up for a 3 hour inerrupt operation. Probably prefer to have ~20% depth of discharge, so more like 15 cells for good

Hunh. Next time, more hyperbole, there clearly wasn't enough.
Just have the AI advance the turns automatically, after calculating where I moved my units, what treasure I took, and what battles I won with my predesigned units and how I expanded along my precalculated roads. You can have that idea for free.
Really thought I teed this up for discussion, did you? Oh, Xia. *sobs*

I'll bet "Developer's Instant Regret" isn't taken yet. Then again, I wanted to name my favorite double black diamond run "Dental Records".

It's time we faced an unpleasant reality: Fallen Enchantress simply has too much micromanagement, and the UI is completely inappropriate for this type of game. It is simply beyond imagination that in 2013, there is still a game that makes me design my own units in order to play optimally. This speaks to the poor quality of the AI as much as anything else. It boggles my mind that I am compelled, turn after turn, to make decisions about what my cities should be produci

Maybe instead of a flat fixed cost in population, make it a percentage of total population, and that number is the starting population of the new city? Use a separate unit (engineer?) to build outposts and roads.

You're right, of course, seanw3; I misspoke. When I said units, I really meant the accumulation of weapons, armor, and traits, and these, indeed, are the things that need to get corrected, as you rightly point out. I'm still struggling with why it's such a bad idea to have traits that allow for normal units to cast fireball every 3 turns, or heal every 2 turns, etc. I can see it quickly being overpowered, but, as you say, if there's a good system in which t

The other thing that I feel should be said here is that "unit design" isn't really a set of tradeoffs, it's putting the best stuff that you have on the units you're sending out. I only make 3 types of units: pioneers, a heavy defense unit, and a series of ranged units, either archers or mages, depending on the availability of crystal. That's usually sufficient to win, and win big. It is, however, not very satisfying in terms of lore. Predesigned units

I don't know if I particularly care about what the original 3D models looked like, but my god, with all the richness that the stats system gave Stardock, what a pity that certain factions didn't have armors that didn't increase defense, but increased init, or factions who didn't use weapons, but all had traits that allowed them to cast spells, or units that levelled at 1/4 the normal rate, but doubled their attack with each level. So much opportunity, such a pedestrian i

One of my biggest frustrations is not knowing how the paths evolve. It would seem to be better to me if there was a "tech tree" like presentation for all the champion pathways, showing what leads to what, so I can figure out how to plan my hero development.

Lord Orion, The scientific community by and large uses EndNote for this. Though I've not done it personally (I just use it for references to published journal articles), I'm given to understand that you can store a range of media through it, and attach files to your references as well. It is keyword searchable, which you create when you create the log for the referencable material. I don't know if it will help you, but you might look at it.
