I'm not quite sure what did it, but I'm lacking the interest to do anything further.
I hear ya buddy. Honestly, I wanted to start a new mod project, but it is just really hard to pull together the interest to do so.
LOL I have a habit of noticing small things that go unnoticed by others
Honestly, most people playing with mods also use ACP which has a huge amount of additional goodie hut weapons which make use of the updated abilities. If you have already grab this mod, you might check out that one as well.
you really want that... I mean the more troops on the board the more memory is being used for the game after all.
Yeah, this should not be a problem. Consider how the memory is actually being used. Consider a unit U as using some memory space x. The vast majority of that space is the base definitions for the unit - the model, textures, base stats, etc - which we will call space y. If you make a constant version of U in memor
ah I see
Whats funny is that you are one of the first people to ever even point this out. There are several mods which uses this mod as a base and none of them even attempt to address this either. Let me think about it, I might get the urge to expand it for ya.
Yeah. The extent of my mod was only to the base weapons, and does nothing for the special goodie hut weapons.
I don't understand. If the oilprice rise then every link in the chain that uses oil and the endconsumer has to pay more, but how does that affect the warehouse worker? The owner of the warehouse will simply charege the next guy in the chain (retail) more.
You are right to look at it as a chain, but you are forgetting something very important. The warehouse owner is now paying more and passes the cost along to the retailers who in turn increase their prices to the en
Older games are romanticized because they were great and groundbreaking at one time, but don't age well.
I hate to admit to this but you are in fact correct. I loved MOO2 a lot as a younger man, and still have many fond memories of playing the game. Yet, when I really think about it, the game had significant shortcomings that if I ran into in a current game would be completely unacceptable. However, as you point out, those games were once great and groundbreaking, a
From my perspective the dynasty system is basically a bare bones system at this point, and many people are falling behind the proposed "inheritance" scheme so they can say, "See - we have a working dynasty system!". And trying to emphasize the effect of family ties to the maximum, just because it's really the only thing going for the dynasty system right now. I think the effects of dynastic marriage should be more subtle, at least for this case. I see this as just one of many chang
From my perspective, the dynasty system could be a really amazing system within Elemental. Thus, when a sov dies, some heir should take over the throne, but in the case of a lack of applicable heir, I think it would be cool if the faction split with the various champions splitting up the kingdom. Normally, I loathe to bring up the total war series with respect to Elemental, but in the context of a dynasty system, I think the comparison is worth discussing. The idea of loyalty and possible civ
Sadly (for us, not the investors) game development is now a well-run business that puts return on investment first. Why would they spend 1000s of additional man-hours on a game that people are going to buy and be satisfied with (as opposed to in love with) when it doesn't make business sense?
You have a definite point here, but there is another side of this picture that many of us seem to neglect during these types of discussions. The amount of people who played Baldur'
If you like fantasy 4x, the game is definitely in a playable state, and considering you can buy it at a Walmart or Best Buy for around $20, it really is worth the entry price. Add to this that the mod community has produced several good mods that extend that experience in a lot of cool ways, it is a steal at that entry price.
If after reading my above replies you still believe the game is only unfinished to me and by my interpretation of the word, then any further discourse on the subject matter would be pointless and I'll bow out of this thread.
As one final point, you seem to believe that someone who disagrees with your interpretation of unfinished also disagrees completely with your analysis of the shortcomings. In my humble opinion, it is impossible to use the multiplayer functionality w
1. An unfinished game is garbage (especially when complete features are missing at launch) 2. Great......we have speeches, authentic music and art (hence the "hollywoood" comment) but we can't make the game connect people who want to play together without crashing or freezing or bugging out in other ways (ie. not showing the same info on every players screen etc.) Fantastic ideals for a deeper MP experience however some of the MP BASICS are presently horribly broken!
I agree, I am not surprised that they do things like that one bit, I would prefer they not do things like that, but the reality is there are a lot of dishonest people out there, a large concentration of them seem to be at EA, or come out when studios fall under their wing.
I hate to say it but this probably wasn't a case of dishonesty or some internally promoted nefarious actions. Consider how it must feel to be an employee at Bioware right about now. You just spent a y
So instead of making a skill system that player are planning out and have long term goals. We have a skill system that makes the moment of levelup as fun as possible. Then it can be forgotten as the player gets back to the main game (which isn't about leveling character X, unlike a RPG).
Derek, your point here is completely understandable. Leveling character should definitely not be the main focus of any 4x game, and should probably not be the avenue by which players cr
As far as AA goes.....even in the faction-selection screen you can clearly see the lack of AA. Zoom in on the battlefield and the evidence is all around you. I didn't pay 50 bucks for 1999 is all I'm saying. However, AA or not......that's not the point. The point is they (yeah yeah I know this song is getting old in the PC-gaming world) released an unfinished game which we happily paid 50 bucks for and if my expressing that gave birth to another sucker (ie you) well then I guess we sho
Hey Kenata do you mind if in later versions of my mod I blatantly rip off your stuff? I like how your mod enlivens combat but some of the included abilities clash with my mod. So I want to include most but remove some and change others.
I don't mind at all, just remember to place a comment on your OP that states that this is an incompatible mod with the core Updated Weapons. If you need more abilities, you can also check out my skill library for additional ideas.
Thanks for the update, Derek. From a modder perspective, I have one simple request. Is it possible to make all the base traits require some sort of meta trait as a prerequisite. For instance, all of the traits might require some trait called "Can Use Standard Traits", which unlocks all of the base traits. I can't imagine this would be a huge undertaking to add in, but would have add incredibly power to those seeking to use traits as parts of their mods. A good example of how this will add to
ooh, this is good. i'm intrigued by the random element, but it could work. balance isn't everything in rpgs, but choices need to be competetive with each other and it's better to do that by making them balanced enough that i can let my heart decide. randomising to avoid that balance just seems like a cop out. if you want to have some more powerful traits then that's fine, but you'd do better limiting them with trees, quests, buildings and achievements rather than the crude tool of rand
Quoting TorinReborn, reply 31Can you give me a few better stories from RTS games? Happy to: Starcraft. Homeworld. Battle for Middle Earth. Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos. Dawn of War II. These are just the few that I've played. Starcraft II's story is the weakest story Blizzard have ever told, however it features the highest production values Blizzard have ever produced. I am sorry, but only Starcraft 1 on that list is legit. All other games

Very Awesome on the conditional! I was wondering if it is possible to have a conditional which is vsSpecificFaction. It would be very cool if one could create a champion that has a particular dislike of a one faction or another. For instance, I might have a fallen champion that gets a bonus when attacking Altarians. Another nice condition might be onHit. Thus, you could have a whole set of traits which do some kind of retaliation effect. A good example would be an ability like "Flame Shield"
