That's awesome, great idea. I agree with the main menu ship builder thingy. Yup.
Insomniac
Yeah, I read the same article the first poster mentioned. That's how GalCivII showed up on my gaming radar. I love me some Penny Arcade.
I play as Terran, and even though the Arceans are historically my buddies, they always seem to wanna rumble with me. The Alterians generally get all chummy, though.
I played a large game with all AI's included today, took me about 4 hours to admit defeat. I did the amazing economy strat, building up a negligible military and then focusing on starbases and trade routes. Around the time that I was feeling like I had the game in the bag, two races that were my primary trading partners erupted into a bitter war, and it was like WW II; everybody started chosing sides. At the end of it, the Drengin/Yor/Arcean allianc
This post scared me. I had to read it three times to figure out what in the fuck he was talking about.
Gameplay examples rock. I am trying to find an empire that posts these all the time, on forums or something. My favorite part of games like this is the story they create while you play.
Your ship designs are amazing. I weep at what I have crafted. Good work.
The AI knows as soon as you get a new tech. You will notice, especially on the harder difficulties, that you get messaged by a civ as soon as you upgrade down a tech tree the other civ's didn't research. Often times, more than one civ will ask for the same tech on the same round. I think the CPU just does a diplomacy scan every turn, effectively; a human player could do that as well, but it would often times be boring.
I can't log on to the Metaverse in game. It won't let me type my registered account name in, which is |nsomniac. The | is not allowed, apperently, once you are in the game. Is there anyway in which to change my name? Thanks.
I had the Drengin cuss me out for rolling a fleet of transport's through 'their' space; they had negligible military presence, and I was just cleaning up a conquest victory. They kept shooting me messages every couple of turns, some of what they said was pretty funny. Then they surrendered to an ally of mine right before I was about to conquer their last couple of worlds. They seemed to think that was funny.
Never, ever, got a ranger random event, and I have been basically living at my computer for the last week or so. You know, between eating and working, lol. Sounds like I am getting jipped. I did see an enemy faction leader get offed, and a very cool event when some dudes showed up and started conquering the Torian, who at the time were all fuzzy wuzzy peace loving and starting to influence my Terran planets. That was a good time. <
Maybe something they will add. After all, Stardock seems to enjoy updating their games remarkably regularly.
Firefly is the shit.
That would be phat. I dunno why, but I have always liked doing that occasionaly; make a sandwhich or something, put the computer on insane difficulty, and watch all the carnage from whatever veiwpoint you like. Very few games have it, though.
I'd love to see this DVD commentary style thingy. Also, Firefly rocks. Just thought I would throw that in there.
Once again, there is a ship design feature in the game. YOUR ships should always look different than the enemy, and the enemy ships do appear differently depending on what tech line and level they are at. They may not look COOL, but it is a computer, so don't expect too much. Sounds like you are just throwing something out there to beef on.
For some reason, the idea that I can name every boat in my fleet is a positive delight to me. I think that makes me almost unrecognizably nerdy, but I find that acceptable. I intend on using a typical naming convention if I am playing a non-terran race; you know, gods and daggers and stuff. For the Terrans and the Alterians, I think I am going to use a more realistic naming policy; I was thinking about finding a list of naval classifications and act
BF2. WoW, in small doses.
Gunmanthegreat, I posted on your forums you set up. First poster, woot.
A cool idea, though; I have always like ship to ship battles, with sailors/marines/whatever jumping from one ship to another through boarding craft and whatnot. If something like this was possible, it would be a delight...but it doesn't sound easily feasible.
Whoa, how are you playing GalCiv2 already?
Thanks! I like multiplayer games, but I was looking for something different with GalCiv2. Is there any empire that is planning on doing game examples/battle reports and various fiction short stories and whatnot? I guess you could do that here, in the forums, but I was looking at something where your empire could share and critique your work in a more flame free atmosphere...though these forums are pretty tame in comparison to the vast majo
