We don't have the means to eliminate these artillery positions in a timely manner. A massive attack with conventional weapons would be a good start, but such a massive attack would not have the advantage of surprise. North Korea could begin shelling Seoul even before our first bombs hit the mountainside. And that's what we'd be doing: hitting the mountainside. These artillery posistions are inside the mountain. They're set up so that we'd ha

Another thing to keep in mind is that the capital of South Korea, Seoul, is within artillery range of North Korea. Seoul is a bustling metropolis, home to millions of Koreans and others. Since before the establishment of the Demilitarized Zone, North Korea has been setting up heavy artillery positions in the mountains overlooking Seoul. These positions are very well-hardened, buried deep in the stone of the mountains, and t
or Is English still spoken in this country and understood to mean what the dictionary says it does. Thank you!!! I was just asking myself the same exact thing!
It's not as painful as you might think. It's more of mild stinging, buzzing sensation. If your pain threshold is high, once you relax and get over the initial jolt of an unfamiliar sensation, it can actually be kind of pleasant. Also, the process produces a "body high" or "rush" that can last for a few hours afterwards. It's more pleasant than a sugar rush, but not as intense as the high you get from most recreational drugs. <BR
One faction calling the other faction "unpatriotic" in heated political debate is not at all the same as an official act of government, calling a citizen "unpatriotic". So far, neither the Executive, nor the Legislative, nor the Judicial branch of government has questioned any American citizen's patriotism.
Gene, are you aware that the Bush administration is in favor of funding for stem cell research, and has in fact approved funding for a number of stem cell research programs? Are you aware that these Bush-funded programs, including research into stem cells taken non-destructively from sources other than embryos, have so far shown more promise, and resulted in more medical advances, than the embryonic stem cell research?
Welcome, M-Post. If you' re interested in discussion, I have a few questions about the abortion thing: 1. How do you resolve the question of a woman's right to choose life or death for another human being? This is not meant to be a loaded question; if you don't believe another human being is invovled, I won't complain. 2. Speaking of other human beings involved in abortion, what about the father? As things currently stand,
Gene, I gave you an explanation earlier today. Please re-read my very first response to this article. And I understand why you would say that your book is very well-researched and full of important facts. I just don't understand why I should believe you when you say that, based on your writing here. Are your articles here of the same quality as your book? If so, I see no reason to waste money on your book. On the other hand, if your book is better-written th
Gene, your articles here are a poor advertisement for your books. Your arguments here are interesting because they're free. There's no way I'm paying hard-earned cash for more of the same. Would you consider posting a representative excerpt from your book, as a promotion to attract new readers? If it's better than what you post here, I might be interested in increasing your book sales. If it's not... well, that's the free ma
Ah, but what Bush did in this case makes perfect sense. Your Cuba analogy would also make perfect sense, if the Cubans in southern Florida had their own independent government and infrastructure, made up a significant fraction of all the people residing in America, could not be brought under American governmental control without shattering the country, and were sponsored and encouraged by a rabidly anti-Cuban Canadian regime--a Canadian regime
It's worse than that. He claims to be ex-military, but is totally unaware of even the most basic and obvious details about the strategic disposition of military forces in the Middle East. Syria and Iran are state sponsors of terror. Up until very recently, Lebanon has been a de facto puppet state of Syria. Even now, Syria still has a great deal of control over Lebanese policy. Southern Lebanon (along the border with Israel)
Bush is on track to CUT THE DEFICIT IN HALF. THIS YEAR. How is that "continually adding to the debt"? At the end of the 90s, that economy collapsed. Maybe because the taxes were so high? (Also because of the dot-com boom, which doesn't really count as a "good economy", since it wasn't based in real value and obviously wasn't sustainable.) After the dot-com bubble burst, and 9/11 happened, the economy tank
I miss the old days, when unofficial sources speaking "off the record" were used by reporters to get an "on the record" statement from official sources. What the hell is going on in this story? Some anonymous person alleges something. That's it. That's the entire news story. No corroboration from named sources, no investigative reporting to confirm the hotel room, no attempt at identifying the hosts of the party, no attempt to track down any
Also, a nation can function just fine over the mid term with even a huge budgetary deficit. A nation can't function at all without an economy. That is why I'm in favor of fixing the economy first, and the deficit later, and it's why I approve of Bush's policy of fixing the economy first, and the deficit later--especially since he seems to be making good headway on both right now.
Ah, but a growing economy due in part to tax cuts is a sustainable long-term plan for future economic growth and stability. An increased government revenue and shrinking economy due in part to tax increases is NOT a sustainable plan for future economic growth and stability. And as usual, Gene gives no countenance at all to the very real possibility that perhaps finding people with money and taking it away from them IS NOT a good way t
As it turns out, tax revenues track more with economic growth than with tax rate increases. Indeed, economic experts both inside and outside the government are pointing to the Bush tax cuts as one of the primary causes of the recent increase in tax revenues. How does that fit into your theory, Gene?
Let's see... Bush promises to halve the deficit during his second term. Financial analysts both inside and outside of the government agree that Bush is on track to halve the deficit as early as this year. Bush cut tax rates. Tax revenues are up. Gene thinks all this is a terrible problem, somehow. I have to admit, the only one of those that didn't surprise me was the last one.
Good grief!
Aren't those really the best kind? Well, everybody's tastes differ. I really like learning about human achievements, because they tell us a lot about ourselves as a species: what we are capable of doing, and what we are driven to do. If there were evidence that Ken Lay had faked his own death,
Don't get me wrong. I like Conspiracy Theories. I think they're awsome. I actually even collect them. My favorite was Iran-Contra, on account of the conspirators finding the perfect patsy. It's really rare to see such a competent, loyal, and committed patsy as Oliver North. He totally believed in the righteousness of his cause, and was totally willing to take the fall so his dark masters could get away with their shenanigans. I just don't think this particular theory has a l
