Awesome article. I love Halloween and I am dismayed that so many groups and so many towns are trying to do away with it. I actually have more to say about this, but I've got a bad earache that I need to tend to. I'll catch up with this thread again later. Thanks, TXW....coming from you, that means a lo

I and my wife were forced to sit through a lecture, or rather a sermon, by my wife's aunt this weekend. Her aunt is a very devout Christian, one of those who refers to herself and those in her church as Christians, while every other Christian-based denomination is whatever they call themselves, if you get my drift. We were visiting, and were discussing the Halloween/birthday party my wife threw for her mom, who turns 50 on Halloween (the par
So my good friend, either do not read the bible(and keep quiet , don't pass comments on it) or read and understand the bible in it's entirety. HALF KNOWLEDGE IS THE WORST KNOWLEDGE. olikara: I wonder whether anyone, anywhere, truly "understands" the bib
If he is a true satanist, it would then seem to me that he also would disavow all of the Ten Commandments as set down by God Himself. These are pretty much the basis for all morality, and would include, of course, the law against murder and theft. I'm not sure I'd want to be stuck on a ship with a jerkoff who has no moral compunction against murder or thievery. Then again, give it time and he'll most likely be tossed overboard by some of
My dad and I had a lot of problems when I was growing up. He had a drinking problem that he didn't ditch until later in life, and a lot of my childhood memories revolve around sitting in one bar or another, watching him get blasted, and hating it, and maybe him, too...just a little. Obviously, because of this, we had some differences that took some time to work out (we did clear the air, fortunately eno
It's because of this unfortunate myth that sex with young virgin girls will cure Aids. Then someone needs to tell the young virgin girls to say no.
I work with the public, and have noticed something over the years that really amuses me: Anyone who owns a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, it seems, has to own not just the bike, but absolutely everything that has the HD logo on it. Everything they own has to have the HD on it somewhere. There was a guy who used to come into the restaurant I worked in back in West Virginia; from hat to boots, everything he wore-----EVERY TIME HE
So, instead of one maniac issuing orders for the brutal yet efficient murders of any number of people who he thinks stand in the way of his power, we now have any number of maniacs wielding RPGs and rifles running hither and yon, slaughtering whomever they see as standing in the way of their power. (And they're so brave and staunch in their beliefs, thumbing their noses at us from behind those
That is why people like Franken, Garafalo, Soros, and the rest are more dangerous than Democrats you actually vote for, I think. Washington Dems want to work in a system, but these yuk-yuks are motivated by the need to bring down particular people of a particular philosophy. At the end of the day they don't have to deal with the
He wasn't even a commedian til later, he was originally just a writer on SNL that they started giving skits to, right? Yes....those annoying "What does it mean to me......Al Franken?" skits. Stupid. That was when S
And then pulled over 100,000 back out of the unemployment pool and trained them as soldiers and policemen. Thanks, drmiler....you saved my bacon on that one. I didn't point that out before I submitted.
not enough troops were sent in, we needed hundreds of thousands but currently have less than 150,000 i think. so, yes, the insurgency is blowing up stuff. but had we gone in prepared with a post war occupation plan, the insurgency would not have been so very effective in recruitment. we fucked up the post war and our troop
I may be beating a dead horse here, but I'm just curious; why are we responsible for the violence and unrest plaguing Iraq right now? Flashback to 2003: Saddam Hussein is ousted by the US-led forces fighting the Iraqi army. The statue falls, and there is dancing and celebrating in the streets. US and British troops are kissed and hugged and hailed by the Iraqi people as liberators. Right about here is where things started to head south.
After reading that book, Franken lost all credibility to me as a "journalist." Thank you. That's my point...he's not a "journalist"....he's a "comedian" (however, Dan Rather has recently proven that it IS possible to be both). Franken rubs elbows with a few Washington lefty pundits and politicos,
When you make the point that atheist children don't have to say "under god".....you are essentially telling them to sit down and shut up. How? I don't see it that way.....anybody else?
That and heavy sigma on Aids in their culture is resisting the changes we are trying to foster on them. This is exactly what I'm saying; they're not getting it, for whatever reason. We need to just forget it. All the money we're spending to fight AIDS in Africa could be redistributed to fund AIDS resear
Very nice, Texas. I know an Army wife who was, shall we say...less than faithful. Glad to hear from one of those who takes their marriage seriously and understands that it's not her husband's fault that he's away. Good for you.
Why in the world would the liberal whackos choose a dork like Al Franken to be their big, new spokesperson? I hated him as a kid, watching him on SNL in the 70s. I've been pondering this enigma for some time, and here's my answer: They aren't funny. They're so self-important and take their issues so seriously that they have to resort to using a pseudo-intellectual, pseudo-celebrity "comedian", a synchophantic, political-pundit-wannabe lik
Reply #1 By: Messy Buu - 10/1/2004 12:11:20 AM It doesn't make sense. On one hand, we should stay out of everybody's business, but on another hand, we should be Superman and save the day. People can't make up their minds. Thank you, Messy Buu..... I suppose that when it benefits us, it's wro
Got a link for this? Unfortunately, no.....it's something I read some time ago in Time, Popular Science or some other mag I read. Sorry.
Why do we have to be the ones to lead the fight on AIDS in Africa? Yes, it's a tragedy of truly terrible proportions, but for crying out loud....for years, years ....we've been giving them help, and giving them condoms, and telling them how to use them. We tell them to make sure they use them, or else they could get AIDS. Still, the disease spreads like wildfire. If they haven't gotten
Aren't atheist children less American than religious children if we are "one nation under god"? Why should atheist children have to sit down and shut up every school day? It seems to me that the religious children are the ones who need to be tolerant. Of course they're not "less American". That's just p
Oh yes, and Bill Maher does not represent the left. Says who? I mean, every time the man opens his mouth, he virtually projectile vomits liberalistic ideals and rhetoric.
I did not mean to offend one's beliefs and if I did I did not do it on purpose. Just as I do not want others to offend me on my non-belief. Lee1776: That's all well and good, but you seem to be one of those I referred to earlier as looking for offense where n
Reply #42 By: Myrrander - 9/30/2004 1:53:02 PM even as an atheist, "under god" doesn't offend me...nor does "in god we trust" stop me from earning and spending money... As for the Pledge, the Supreme Court ruled a long time ago that nobody can be forced to say it, so I think that should pretty much satisfy anybody.
