Okay everyone, jeez, take a breather. To quote Monty Python, "Let's not quibble over who killed who". All we can hope for is that Stardock learned from the past and is taking steps to rectify this situation for the future. They must make the next moves in the form of release patches and expansions. Until then, it's your call whether to be a part of the solution (via constructive criticism) or part of the problem. My money is on (literally) Brad and crew coming fo

I play large games that take a few hours to play/complete so 15 minute wins are not my thing. I don't think that the no-rush rule is conducive to multi-player as it creates an artificial environment. Take the title, Elemental WAR of Magic, hell War is it's middle name. I think it is unwise to play what is basically a war game as you would, say, Sim City. In fact, I used to play Evony and the people who just wanted to play in their sandbo

My large map games are usually 250-300 turns (Ridiculous or Extreme on the opponents AI). I only cast heal, with an occasional range spell to finish off a fleeing Sov or his family. I only see 44 level attacks or less with HPs in the low 100's. High armor and First Strike usually carry the day.

I make every hero into a one-man army. Early development is to get CON up to 15 or 16. I then get their Intel up to 19 for Teleport (the +3 Intel rings definitely help here). After that every point goes to STR. My typical large map game (AI set to Extreme or Ridiculous) takes about 300 seasons to complete and I will have 5-7 heroes about 10-11 levels each maxed out in Legendary armor (except for Master Armlets). Early game each hero gets the Boots of Traveling to explore thi

What I do to avoid this condition is to start saving at the end of each turn, usually starting around season 50. About season 100 I drop the game every 45 minutes, load my browser, close my browser and restart the game. Around season 150 I do this every 30 minutes until I complete the game. I rarely get the OOM condition unless I push it past 30 minutes of gameplay. Hope this helps.

Good one Vandenburg! LOL I usually play Extreme or Ridiculous with Conquest being the only Victory condition (War, oh I love it so). I start with a Sovereign that produces mana, food, gildar, Arcane points, Tech points, is near a mine, has +1 movement, Cowardly, has the Combat, Terraforming and Mobility spell books and is 15 for Str and Const. My Faction gives me the early techs. (1) Build a hut, give Sovereign boots and a staff and send him out East

I do the same as Lord Xia. I do strongly suggest you create your own Faction as the off-the-shelf ones they provide are inferior to one you make yourself (Tarth excluded). To create your own Faction go through the "Workshop" menu from the main menu. I play men for the equipment and when you conquer the cities of the other men factions their dwellings automatically upgrade to your tech levels. Save the game often or change the frequency of the autosave through t

It's been my experience (10+ years as a software project manager) that clients usually blue-sky a myriad of features into their projects. It is the PMs and DLs responsibility to find the middle ground between what is achievable/affordable and this blue-sky. I had my best results in loading as much of the process variables into table driven systems that could be substantially updated through table changes only. The company that I worked for bought out a similar company and wh

I started playing after 1.1 came out and I was pleasantly surprised by the game. I especially liked the Sov, Faction, and Unit customization abilities and I strongly urge you to customize same. I like what I'm seeing so far but the expectation of what is to come is the real draw. I won't spout off the laundry list of fixes and buffs/perks that I would like to see as I am sure you will create your own list.

They must all be head down and busy right now. I asked for a status as recently as yesterday, to no avail. Too bad it's not a vacation week. I was spoiled by the daily feedback we received over Christmas/New Years.

I was wondering how the OOM issue resolution is coming along? I also would like some info on the next patch release date and contents. Any news regarding these two points would be appreciated. If I missed an earlier missive on this, a thousand pardons. I was playing a large map and wanted to check how much memory the game was using of my 2 gig computer. I checked the system status using Ctrl-Alt-Del and selecting the "Start Task Manager" option. It was us

I never played Civ V as I didn't like the reviews it received. I waited until 1.1 of Elemental was released before purchasing. All of this garbage about Elemental being tainted by Jon is nonsense. I'll take a seasoned designer any day to work on my projects. Has he made some mistakes in the past, surely, but haven't we all. Any competent person LEARNS from their mistakes which makes their future projects that much better. A

I have read through a number of posts and IMHO the game crash situation is my number one priority. If the solution is convert the game to 64 bit then by all means Godspeed. I appreciate the other ideas folks have offered regarding Quests, Clans, Items, and whatnot but without a stable environment, all the bells and whistles don't mean much. I just finished a game (Large, Challenging World with Challenging Opponents) that towards the end crashed every 10-15 minutes. I a

I stayed away from Elemental until version 1.1 was released, so I only have experience with the new version. It's not perfect but the number of bugs is not outrageous compared to other new releases. I definitely don't feel that it should be ranked #2 on the infamous list. I say give Brad and company a chance to continue making improvements before making a hasty judgment. I haven't enjoyed a game in this genre as much since MoM.

I also have a problem with caravans. I get a "No Home Found" message when I sent a caravan from a captured city to another city. The detail text of the message reads: "The caravan cannot find a path home, and therefore cannot create a trade route." Any ideas on WTH this means?

Hi, I have returned to play this game recently. My last game was new and different as all the majors and one minor race all declared war on me within one game month in the 3rd year (2227). I play Suicidal (Huge) with all races on their highest difficulty levels (as for me, I play a Custom race). I had a regular start and wiped out the nearby Yor first. Next I took out two minors for their juicy planets and then the Thalans. After I took out the Thalans all the tr

I have played over 25+ games, some with the minor races enabled and some with them disabled. I now cannot get them to appear no matter which way the 'Disable minor races' toggle is set. I have verified my installation of GC II Dread Lords GOTY edition via Impulse. I am using the latest version, 1.53. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Hello, Thanks for the reply and info. One more question, I saw that there is a thread for Gal Civ 3 and I was wondering if the 10k and 20k 'limits' were being addressed? I would look but I see there are more than 1000 replies and I was hoping that someone already addressed this. Thanks again, Burt aka Aww Nuts

I am an Gal Civ 1 player trying to get accustomed to the Gal Civ 2 Dread Lords game. I have been playing about three weeks and have just started posting to the Metaverse this week. I really enjoy the gameplay but I have noticed a few design elements that I have issues with. (1) When you focus your production on a given category it doesn't update the research time-to-discover value. You have to change one of the sliders to recalculate the research value. (Feature or F

Hi all, I played during my college years. When Wizardry came out for the Apple we all but abandoned the paper and pencil quests. Bards Tale I-III, Might and Magic IV etc were our new D&D objectives. As for the paper game I played Paladins, Fighters, Clerics, a Mage and a Psionicist. All were Good or Neutrals. No evil types. I wouldn't enjoy playing an evil character, even when it's not real.
