I tried the mods,it does make the game better,but it's still slow and boring.

He must not have played MOOII or MOOI.
It just pisses me off when I hear that people liked this abomination MOOIII.

i just freaking wanted the same game with better graphics, better diplomatic relations, space combat and a more indepth espionage system, but noooo they had to make that piece of crap that has the name of what was suppose to be the gr8test 4x strat game ever.

thank god for stardock for galciv and cant wait to play the sequel. GO STARDOCK!!

All I have to say is... Thank God for MOOIII! Yes, it was crap. Yes, I hated it. Yes, I pre-ordered it. However, when I returned the preordered and nearly unplayable program that it was back to my local EbGames, I kept one item that was from the MOOIII box, a little flyer for a strong indie game called Galatic Civilizations. If MOOIII had been at least moderately playable, or if it hadn't had that little flyer in it, I may never have even heard of GalCiv. So I never regret buying MOOIII, cause it lead me to this wonderful game and many hours of fun playtime!

Bottom. MooIII was at the bottom of my list of games to pick up. You'd have to say, really, objectively, that the people who designed that game were completely...

As far as I could work out playing MOO3 for a couple of hours..... it was a game of clicking the OK button!

I actually want to thank the disgruntled MOO and MOO3 fans. After finally capitulating this was horrible, even after waiting for a patch, many were sharing the joy they found in Galactic Civilizations. I was warned it wasn't like MOO but sorta similar. I too found joy in GC, it was its own game. So I want to say thanks for leading me to Stardock.

Thanks for all your replies. I am now convinced not to play this game. I was brought in doubt by the review of this guy. I rather spend my time playing Galciv 2 in the scarce leisure time I have at the moment.

BTW, the review clearly hints that:
- you must be very perseverant to overcom the learning curve of MOO3
- the way to handle things is clearly different from any other 4X game

I reinstalled moo2 and found out that many others play this old classic on kali. I played several hundreds MP games online since then.....in MP it is again a completely new game....since there is challenge!!!

I drove to 4 stores on release day to find a copy....I tried to accept it for almost an entire week, and came to the inevitable conclusion that I had just wasted a week of my life, 5 gallons of gas, $53, and all of my fond memories of MOO and MOO2....

Got the Prima Strategy guide for free with the purchase....unfortunatly the lighter fluid and matches where extra.

Now that game can be found for $10 (is that enough?).

You can still purchase Moo2 or get Moo1 off of Abandon ware sites. By comparison to today's standards it has some problem areas but overall it is still a classic and very enjoyable.

Moo3 was an incredible let down. Moo3 was like an Uwe Boll film. Horrible. Galciv is like going to watch Serenity for the first time after watching an Uwe Boll film. Delightful breath of fresh air.

Moo3 had some interesting new ideas in it but the game was a collection of random interesting ideas not fully fleshed out and with no overall cohesion to the design. It was dull and unintersting and took little from the original games. The two ideas I did like in the game were:

use of 3d space for the starmap.
the radio feedback that you would recieve from ground battles and the battle plans that you could choose for ground battles. Getting a dynamic radio transmission from your commander on the ground telling you whats going on during the battle was a really cool idea and well implemented it really pulled you into the game....other than that the rest was pretty poor.

MoO3 was the worst game I've ever bought in my life. I loooove MoO1 and 2 so I really wanted to like MoO3.

Litterally EVERY aspect of MoO3 was flawed in one way or another. Rediculous tactical battle, NO control whatsoever about you empire or the battles. Oh man, when I think of that endless stream of research messages. Just imagine seeing 10+ research messages popping up EVERY TURN. No feedback. No customer support. No NOTHING.

Heh, I'm still pissed of by that monstrocity.

lol... I see someone else here loves Serenity... our whole university residence floor watched Firefly the week before it came out then we all went to see Serenity... it was awesome... and the movie actually was good as well...

and yeah... I guess my comments on Moo3 aren't even needed... It's fairly obvious the game's impossible to like...

MOO1, in my opinion, was the best space game ever, better than MOOII, and better than Gal Civ I (sorry). Hopefully Gal Civ II will be the first game to surpass it, I haven't gotten my copy yet.
