Damn teachers, almost let George Bailey's kid die of cold

For all of those folks that thought that the Joe User bashing of teachers is just a recent phenomenon, I can go back to the 1940's, well before JU even existed, back to a time when that silly Mrs. Welch almost let Zuzu Bailey die of pneumonia because the child left school without closing her coat because she was trying to protect the flower her teacher had given her.

Poor George Bailey, it wasn't until after his date with destinity, and even a punch in the face from Mr. Welch (the teacher's husband) that he realized what his life was really worth.

Smart teacher though, telling little Zuzu that every time a bell rings an Angel get's his wings.

Meanwhile there's some justice due to that mean old Mr. Potter. That scaliwag was just a warped, frustrated old man. He'll get his come-uppance though. Just after the credits roll the towns people will start a lynch mob and go for the jugular on that old coot. They'll find out he was faking the need for the wheel chair and they'll just start kicking and beating him until he's been dealt with!

Yup, it's that time of year. Zuzu's petals. George Bailey vs. Mr. Potter and all that.

I believe, it's silly but I believe.

One of the best times of year, even if the films are old, black and white and seem so corny. Now I just have to catch up with that Green guy with the heart two sizes too small.

BTW, the comments above about the Green guy offer an almost perfect opportunity for ParaTed2k to do some photo-shop magic with a certain C.O.L. (he might even consider that a challenge if he reads this thread!)

Its a wonderful movie, my Christmas favorite.

For me it's hard to choose among 4 possibilities.

I love "It's a Wonderful Life", but I equally enjoy "Miracle on 34th Street", "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and the old heartwarmer, "A Charlie Brown Christmas" with the poor little tree and Linus' great speech about Christmas and what it really means.

Picking one of them as my favorite is just about impossible. I really like "It's a Wonderful Life", and have been a fan of Jimmy Stewart for years. He was a great actor, along with many of his generation - Clark Gable, Cary Grant, Tony Curtis, Frank Sinatra, Henry Fonda, John Wayne and a host of others. Stewart beats them all in many ways for his ability to seem like just any old guy. It was always easy to picture yourself as whatever character Stewart was playing, while for many of the others you had to imagine yourself as much larger than life.

Dont you Dis ZUZU's petals!  It is my favorite!  And before they figured out it was a holiday classic, I watched it 5-10 times per year!

I love it!  Thanks for the forewarning!

I'm actually very happy that along the way in the last few years the copyright issues were settled for the movie. For a brief period it was supposedly "in the public domain" and because of that it was aired mercilessly during the Thanksgiving to Christmas time period.

I'm not normally a fan of long copyright protections, but what happened with It's a Wonderful Life was fairly shameful. I wouldn't be surprised if the over-dosing of the film helped to lead to the "Disney" benefiting copyright extensions that were lobbied for so hard, and granted in the last several years.

There has to be a balance between having works like IAWL make their way into the public domain in a respectful manner, and having the copyrights go on ad infinitum.

As long as there's some reasonable availability of the content I guess it doesn't bother me that much, but then again there are Disney classics I can't get today because of their own rabid political correctness that make me wish they'd have lost the rights to some things some time back (Song of the South anyone?!)

It is. The musical soundtrack isn't. Pulled on a technicality.

Theoretically, if someone cared to remove the music and substitute a public domain score it could be PD again.

Anyone listening? (whistles innocently)

If it wasn't for that merciless airing, it wouldn't be a classic, just a forgotten flop of an old film. Frankly, I think this once a year on one station B.S. is killing it.

I have to agree with you there.  And thanks for the other info as well.

you'd think having to live with a name like zuzu, one woulda avoided inflicting that kinda thing on the next couple generations.

unluckily for poor lucas, that seems not to have been the case.
