History does not pinpoint the exact date of Jesus' birth. Some have said early fall and some think it was in the spring. It was in the spring when the Shepherds would keep extra care over their flocks at night as this was the time the ewes bore their young. Around 200 AD theologians believed Jesus was born around May 20. Some thought maybe it was in March or April.
In AD 385 Pope Julius declared December 25 as the day to celebrate His birth. The reason that date was chosen was partly to challenge the Roman pagan celebration of their god Saturnalia.
What about the star seen in the sky? Some say it was a comet, an astroid or a recurring nova. This would be a star that would increase in brightness for a period of time, maybe months before growing dim again and occurs once or so every decade.
Skeptics claim that the virgin birth is nothing more than another pagan religious myth. But contrary to mythology, scripture actually deals with real persons, dates and events open to investigation.
Now the question is why did he come into this world to begin with?
Well from the very lips of Jesus: "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world but that the world through him might be saved."
