Beta 3 is available

from Stardock Forums
It's a big download but it is now available.

There is a slight update from the initial update that went up so if you downloaded before 9pm EST this Friday you'll want to go back and check to make sure there isn't an update.

I am having trouble downloading galciv.ex_ and Planet20.bi_ both give SDS0004 errors after a few minutes of trying to download them.

Looks like Planet20.bi_ is ok now. Could just be the server timing out. I am sure there are a lot of people downloading b3 atm :)

galciv.ex_ is still giving SDS0004 errors. Annoying as it looks like the last download for the main update.

I was able to uninstall it and reinstall it from scratch from Drengin.net. That's a worst case scenario of course but it worked.

finally got galciv.ex_ now just had a problem uncompressing startup.mt_. deleted it reloading it and that fixed it. Got the base going for the multimedia now :)

I had trouble with galciv ex. as well. I closed down the dgm and it finished and loaded fine. Don't know if closing the dgm actually did anything but it must have stopped downloading 10 times, before this. Just started multymedia download. It's 5.30 am here. Could'nt sleep. Can't think why.

I am getting a file size error on galciv.ex_. I am on my third try. If it fails again I will try closing and restarting the DGM.

Finished downloading and started a game. Beta 3 is amazing. Great job guys. Overall feels a lot faster.
Still trying to get a handle on all the new tech's and star base options. Again great job guys.

I cannot connect...
Is the server down?
It has asked for the registration code, I've provided but can't connect. Simply no answer from the server.... :(
Will try again. Anyone can check if all servers are active and working?
It's 3 AM SD Time so I suppose there is not a bit number of hits on the server... or it crashed before :notsure:

Ok looks like the problem was the loader.exe.
Started directly Drengin.exe and it connected.
Anyway I suppose someone should look at it.

BTW, I do not see GC updated... :sniff!:
I'll uninstall and retry.

Uninstalled but... cannot install because of my account expired (01-01-1900) and... no server is available to register again!!!! :VOMIT:

Now, Beta2 is uninstalled and I cannot get Beta3.

I'm not sure what the issue is.

The real problem is that such a small percentage of players participate in the message boards that it's been hard to gauge how many active players there are. There are tons of people downloading the files at once with only a handful of people posting.

I am downloading the Multimedia as I post this. I downloaded GC proper last night into a clean brand new directory. I also have my dial-up monitors up and running so I can see the rate that the data is coming in. It is no better than one fourth what it could be, so I suspect the SD server is swamped. I started the download of the multimedia last night before I went to bed and it was still running and only about half done when I checked it this morning. This is one case where I don't think DSL helps as the data rate is throtled by the swamped server.The main part of GC took me 4 hours with three attempts last night to download. Since it is about 26 meg I would have expected it to take only about one and a half hour on my dial-up.

Yea, the internal network is just saturated.

I'm going to probably drive into the office and move the files to our UUnet server today or tomorrow so that the speed will be fast. But in the meantime it's going to be slow.

What's going on. I started up the Drengin Net Manager, but it doesn't show any updates for GalCiv. What am I doing wrong here? It gives me the option to uninstall or play, but but "upgrade" isn't a highlighted option. What gives? Thanks.

I am unable to get any files downloaded even with the option available to install. Brad said he was going to try to fix the download speed, so perhaps his working on it is interferring. We will just have to wait and try later.

The most likely cause is that you couldn't get a connection to the DGM server for any of a number of reasons.

The DGM should start, even if you don't get a connection, so you can uninstall or play games that have already been downloaded, but it can't tell that there are updates available if it can't get the filelist from the server.
