When a civilization dies should not the ships die ?

When an Alien loses a war the starbases they created still exist. Since starbases are tough to distory should they not be distoryed when the civilization who owned them nolonger exists.

Thus free the resourse for the remaining players.

I think that all Starbases and ships should become property of the Victorious Race or the race with the most influence in that particular sector.

Not a bad idea.

Two ways to think about it.

When an enemy is about to loose they may destroy all their ships out of spite.

or

When an enemy is about to loose they cave in like France in World War II hoping for fair treatment under enemy rule.

The way it is now is weak enemy ships should not be left behide when the are gone. They should be gone or like you said property of the victor.

Arrggh...I swear that I've fixed this bug before! Well, it's fixed again...

Cari,

You may be partly right about having fixed this bug before. I had a game (on B3) where one race surrendered to me and all of its star bases dissapeared and another race surrendered and all of its star bases remained.

I definitely got a bunch of resources in my last game (in 3A) when the race that owned them dropped out and their starbases disappeared.

Well, when I looked at the "scuttle ships" code, it looked like it could have been a hit or miss thing, so I tweaked it a bit.
