Beta 4 tomorrow

...So close...

Tomorrow beta 4 will be released to the Galactic Civilizations II beta team.  Users who have pre-ordered the game will be able to download the game from Stardock Central.

This will be the first build in which the basic game mechanics of the game will be somewhat implemented (i.e. the first beta that actually includes real game play as opposed to engine testing).

We are particularly looking for players who have Windows 98, ME, and 2000 to give feedback so that we know how well we're performing on those systems (we have machines in our lab but real world users are always preferred).

This version will also have the ship textures in.  We're still holding out on a lot of graphics and multimedia (and the campaign of course) so that the final game has plenty new in it.  Like last time, Stardock will be making a BonusPak that will be available on ship day that will include some extra goodies and a few new features as a way of thanking users for purchasing the game.

There will be two additional beta builds in November and at least one in December.  After that, only those users with Ambassador access will be able to get into the gamma (release candidate) builds.

How do you get Ambassador access!

Seems a bit unfair....I'm already jealous.

/me gibbers
/me pulls himself together

You get 'promoted' by giving useful feedback on features and bug hunting, as well as your community contribution. Who gets promoted is done entirely on Stardock discretion, you don't earn 'points' by posting in every thread or anything like that, in fact spamming will make yourself less likely to be promoted.

Unless, of course, you're a "special case" like a certain member we all know of (whose promotion is a total mystery, probably even to those who granted it)

I think the whole idea of having Ambassador Access is that you will actually post useful comments and give them as much feedback as you can. They havent got the access just to play it

Myself, i'd rather it be only people who will give good feedback that have access, as it means that SD will have more to go on and change bits which need changing.

The fact that i'd never get it doesnt bother me at all as i rarely ever post. Ive probably made like 10-20 posts since i joined ( I was in the first 90 or so people to pre-order gc1)

Leave it to the people who deserve it

Well I check and no Beta 4 yet!!!

I thought it was supposed to be Diplomat access for the later closed beta. At least that was what I thought I saw written down somewhere a few weeks back.

Either way, I'm pumped for the release tomorrow!

Brad was referring to the gamma or release candidate versions. Probably around the beginning of the year.

Well why cry about not getting future versoins while we going to have 2 upcoming versions anyway ?
(And the final of cause)
I mean StarDock completely right by limiting number of people that potentially can bury them with semi-spam reports to the people that proven to provide usefull output .
Time is money

I can understand the reasoning for the Ambassador status for the final beta, I also feel that it is not fair to all the others that have only posted real bugs or suggestions that mean something. As well as some folks have a real life with a real job and has limited playing time during the week, as well as I have only experianced a few bugs that were corrected in beta3.
Just my 2 cents

Most game companies don't allow people to even access betas -- pre order or not.  We reserve the right to self-select a handful of people to help us with the final testing of the game.

I preordered a few days ago and am looking forward to helping beta test this game. I really enjoyed the first Galactic Civilizations and this one looks to be even better.

Any indication when it will be available (that is, what time of day ) Since Stardock is located in the US somewhere and I am in the GMT + 1 timezone it will at least not be in the morning (my morning that is), but am I likely to be able to get it during my day at all, or do I have to wait till saturday? Really looking forward to this

Is it tommorrow?

Yes, and in two hours it is Friday (here in Germany)! So I hope for news within the next hours . . .

Relax! When they give a date for release, the time of release is almost always after the normal workday is finished. So check back this evening for the download.

Well, it's the 3rd now (afternoon Pacific time...) and no update available... Still showing version 0.31[b].002 What is up? Not that I'm anxious or anything...

No, this does NOT require a reply - I know to wait until after hours to start REALLY complaining!

Previous builds have been released around 5.00-7.00pm USA time (I forget which timezone exactly) so for us in europe we're looking at around 10pm area.
