Beta 2A sector ownership shows incorrect owners.

Some of the ownership is of sectors without any star systems, and one is of a sector where the only occupied star is one I colonized. I have been using the zoom on the minimap and have saved/reloaded the game many times. Before starting this game I deleted the savegames directory, so there should be no residual data from a previously saved game. I have sent the saved game to Cari.

Could it be the influence from neighboring sectors? Brad mentioned that ultimately influence, the color of the sector was dictated by the race with the most influence on the sector. Just because you colonize the sector doesn't mean you necessarily wield the most influence on the region. Just a thought

Not at all in this case. The color is for a race that I have not encountered yet and no race should have influence for a sector without stars (unless they build a star base in that sector?). Also, as the game played out and I discovered the subject races they were nowhere near the sectors that were incorrectly colored. The incorrectly colored sectors were in the left 3 columns and the races were in the right 6 columns on a gigantic (15*15) galaxy, so they were a minimum of 9 sectors away.

I have just discovered something that may be an important clue as to what is happening to cause this, and it may only happen in a gigantic galaxy (I have not checked smaller galaxies yet). Now that I have explored almost all of the galaxy and have the "eyes of the Universe" I see a definite pattern to the errors of the sector ownership coloring. In the saved game I sent to Cari the Drengins (red) actually own sectors 2:12 and 1:13, but in addition sectors 3:0 and 2:1 are colored red. The same pattern can be seen with the coloring for all of the other races including mine. All of the sector colors in the columns x:12, x:13, and x:14 are replicated in sectors x+1:0, x+1:1 and x+1:2 respectively, and all of the sector coloring in columns x:0, x:1, and x:2 are replicated in sectors x-1:12, x-1:13, and x-1:14.

I will be trying this with a huge galaxy shortly.

It's a problem with the way that we calculate a single number sector ID (rather than coordinates as it's displayed on the game screen), for use in things like hit detection. The current way allows 2 sectors to have the same IDs, so it thinks that there are more stars in the sector than are really there.

Beta 3 sector ownership will be based on influence.
