Actors and Actresses that never made it big.

good choice I was going to name micheal parks the replacement for JAMES DEAN.

Terrance Stamp. I saw a couple of movies of his and loved him! He fizzled and died.

Stamp was mainly a '60's star (before the age of the Superstar). I loved him in Far From The Madding Crowd.
He did the obligatory "retreat to India", only it lasted way too long (10 years).

Since then I loved him as Zod in Superman II and as Bernadette in Priscilla, Queen fo the Dessert.

As far as my own pick. Well, I always felt Christine Lahti should have gone on to bigger and better. Loved her in Leaving Normal.
...Or has she done well and I just haven't been paying attention?

nope ms lahti never has made it to the big leagues., good choice.

Female: Debra Winger. Tremendous character actor, who had a couple of popular moments (and three Oscar nominations to boot) but became unfashionable very quickly, even as the roles she played became ever more interesting. Recommended viewing: 'The Sheltering Sky' (1990), 'A Dangerous Woman' (1993).

Male: David Thewliss. Got on the Hollywood treadmill for a little while, but soon got off again - probably due more to boredom than disillusion. Either way, it was Hollywood's loss. Often jaw-droppingly impressive, whether in dark drama or 'just' playing for laughs. Recommended viewing: 'Naked' (1993), 'Divorcing Jack' (1998).

Gotta say when richard gere went and scooped her up and carried her away I got kinda um misty.

I heard David Thewliss interviewed once about his Hollywood experiences. During the interview, he said - very much tongue in cheek, I believe - that the Hollywood part he was most proud of was playing the voice of the earthworm in 'James and the Giant Peach'!

Other parts in films / TV that you might know him from would include 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban' (Professor Lupin), 'Dinotopia' (Cyrus Crabb), 'The Big Lebowski (Knox Harrington), and 'The Island of Doctor Moreau' (Edward Douglas). In my opinion, even where the film itself is rubbish (e.g. the last in this list), Thewliss is always worth watching.

Yeardley Smith. Known pretty much only as the voice of Lisa Simpson, she's a remarkable talent who never found the right vehicle to make her a star. She always has unique line readings that leave me floored. In fact, when I auditioned for my last radio gig there was a line I couldn't get a handle on. I thought, "How would Yeardley read this?" did it that way and nailed the audition.

Mark Blankfield. The cast member from Fridays who should have made it big instead of one note no-talent Michael Richards. His first couple of films went down the toilet and that doomed his career.

Bess Armstrong. She appeared in "Jeckyll and Hyde... Together Again" with Mark Blankfield, but unlike him more than had her shot at stardom. The studios put a lot of effort into her, including her own short lived TV series, but she never caught on with audiences.

There's another actor who's name is eluding me at the moment, who mainly works in theater, but is one of the best actors I've ever seen. He's always inventive, original, and completely believable.

I saw a film noir called ginger something {i forget} she was quite remarkable in that.

I thought the whole cast from fridays was good, better than most the SNl casts we get these days.

I like Alan Rickman, who has talent coming out his ears and has only been a leading man in "Truly, Madly, Deeply" - and who has seen THAT?!?!

My choice for a star that never made "A-List" but should have, would be Aidan Quinn. Don't believe me? watch the HBO movie "...and the Band Played on", or "Benny and Joon" (and please, PLEASE throw out that schmaltzy airline disaster TV movie flick he just did!)

Some years past, I'd have put Jennifer Connelly ("Labyrinth") on the same list. But "A Beautiful Mind" fixed that for her somewhat.

Gary Oldman. He has A-list talent but I doubt he's paid like an A-list actor. I wonder how many average movie goers could pick him out of line-up. He has played everything from Sid Vicious to Lee Harvey Oswald to Dracula to Beethoven to Pontius Pilate to Surius Black to Dr. Smith from "Lost in Space". He also was funny as hell as Drexl in "True Romance".

Another guy I consider underrated despite being well-known is Gene Hackman. When was the last time he gave a bad performance? Sure he's been in some not-so-good movies, but when he's on the screen you do tend to watch.

Another good movie that Terrence Stamp was terrific in was "The Limey".

I also think most character actors are underrated. In fact, many character actors are ther best actors.

I loved eric in Mask, with cher, who I do not even like.

btw off note when I was thinner I was told I resemble sam elliot, since he is one ugly fucker I was not sure if it was compliment or not. heh

I haved loved alan rickman since "diehard" and I have seen t.m.d.

I do like aidan and have considered him one of the better character actors.

Prior to Entourage I'd have listed Jeremy Piven, but I think he's getting the exposure he deserves within that role.
