New Sci-Fi Friday Starts Tonight

Absolutely. I haven't been a long time fan, which is unfortunate because I love sci-fi and had no idea what I had been missing. I rarely get all the way to channel 70 before deciding there is nothing good on and turning off the TV.

I caught 4-5 hours of the Battlestar:Galactica marathon last week and must say I enjoyed it very much. Interesting characters, good mixture of story, action, and fiction. I've never seen any of the Stargates but am going to check them out tonight. Hopefully they are as good as I'm expecting them to be

Stargate is definitely more action oriented than Battlestar Galactica, but it all makes for an entertaining night of TV.

I've been filling in by watching reruns of Stagate Atlantis which I missed first time around and the 4400. I'll be interested to see how the time-travel effects are played out in the new SG-1 episodes though.

Oh, seems like I completely missed the intent of that time-travel pair of episodes. Seems like half the SG-1 cast didn't want to get involved this time round though Still, Atlantis had some impressive effects.

Man, SG-1 has really changed since last season. Richard Dean Anderson is gone now and now Beau Bridges and Ben Browder are on the show. It'll be interesting to see how this all pans out...

I haven't been able to watch Sci-Fi channel because my cable company doesn't carry it as part of its basic service Its been two years without out but one network isn't worth an extra $35/month. Plus with Macgryver gone I don't know if I would watch the show, like when the X-Files lost Mulder...

I'm not sure I like the new head of Beau Bridges and Ben Browder characters but Vala is growing on me. The new threat of alien religious extremists seems rather topical too.

I don't mind Beau Bridges, but Ben Browder is taking me a bit of time to grow accustomed to. I think I'm having a hard time separating his new character from his Farscape one. Claudia Black is doing pretty well though so far; not sure if she's going to be a regular or not. 

Well, now that Samantha Carter is back I guess Vala has been exiled until they need her again.

Hmm, it seems just as momentum was building with the Ori (or however its spelt) storyline than SG-1 comes to the end of the Season. Is it me or was that suprisingly short?

Actually, I'm getting into Firefly at the moment although the whole backstory still has me somewhat confused. I'm wondering whether the movie "Serenity" (in theatres Sep 30th) was meant to be released before the series? I have to confess having a soft spot for the engineer chick though

Yeah, the season does seem short, but Sci-Fi channel seasons are only ever 10-12 episodes long. On the bright side, the following seasons are typically only 2 months away.

Firefly was a series on Fox a few years ago that was cancelled. I never gave it any heed, but the show garnered a cult following. Serenity (the movie) is a follow-up to the series and appears to be placed after the final episode (my guess).

Well, what do you know! How did I miss that? Firefly even has its own wikipedia page. How could Fox cancel it? I hope SciFi channel will pick it up but I suspect Fox will want too much for the rights. Apparently, there are murmurings of further movies however.
