2 points - Signposts to good threads and enemy diplomacy

Relatively new, wont waste everyones time on bugs crashed etc but may I ask 2 things:
This place could do with some organising - existing threads for hot topics, I find myself drafting stuff that is already covered or unable to find key threads.
Secondly why oh why can't I get the otehr guys to back of for a while until I can get established? I have the game on a low difficulty level and with the defaults for the Aliens - but in one start I did they had all declared war on me within about 4 turns! Additionally no one is interested in talking peace.
I hear teh AI is currently being worked up which is great,but any clues in the meantime so I can get a game going beyond 20 minutes (crashed every 5 mins aside!)
