Spiralling Debt

I am currently being set upon, am making a good job of fighting back and
have been offered ships by others, but my financial situation is getting
worse by 100bc a turn, due to military spending.

I have set domestic policy spending to 0% but my military expenses are
147bc. What can I do to cut the expense. It is related to the defenders
most of my planets have ? If so how do I kill my own craft ? I believe I
can survive with just my battleships.

Current treasury is -1278, which means I have no chance of buying any
transport to get back the planets that I have already lost !

Any suggestions appreciated. John.

take them out of orbit and click on the red X on the bottom of the window and that will dismantle them......

Or try trading or selling them to the other races...if they are all in debt, too, try trading for techs you don't have, ships you need, or even influence points.

Trading them is the best, because then you get something for them, and if you're at war and you can trade for better ships, so much the better. Or maybe as a peace offering to the civ you're at war with. :)

I go through and re-name all the ships that I'm going to trade to TradeMe or something like that, so I know which ones to trade, and I don't leave any of my planets vulnerable.
