The Linux Desktop environment is growing, and as more momentum gets behind it we'll be seeing alot more assimilation into the user market share. The "Geek Factor" is starting to slip on it. It is being adopted in more places now, than we can shake a stick at. Also it makes for a great bargaining chip against Microsoft. Kinda Like Dell (I could have the wrong company) and AMD ,I think it is. Everytime they want Intel to lower the prices, they trot out AMD as an alternative processor supplier, and Intel sweetens the pot for them. If anything, that serves a great purpose for the consumer as well, because the prices get lowered and (hopefully) gets passed onto the consumer. So the World Communities are benefitting from that good old Linux Goodness, without even knowing it, Using it, or worrying about it, by the bargaining factor introduced into the purchasing, and TCO prices entertained by the Governmental bodies, Bigger Corps and other Mass License Consumers.
Or I could just be full of Crapola...
