SLOOOOOOWWWWW explosions

Hey all.

I'm playing GalCiv 1.20 on a WinXP machine from Falcon Northwest. AMD64 3200, 1 gig ram, and a Soundblaster Audigy 2.0 Platinum.

When one ship attacks another, the shooting animiation slows to a crawl. It can literally take 30 seconds for the "ship firing on ship" animation to complete. Framerate drops to a frame or two every couple of seconds. I had the same problem on this machine PREVIOUS to the 1.2 patch (What was the previous ver? 1.14 or something?)

If I turn the explosions off in the main menu, problem still exists because it's the FIRING animation that stutters, not the explosion animation.

Anyone else have this problem or hear about it? Any pointers?

Thanks!

Yeah. Whenever I've seen it, it's been a "GC Resource issue". To fix it, required exiting GC completely and then restarting GC.

Usually the slowdowns with the ship battles are caused by conflicts with sound or video drivers.  Check to make sure that you have the latest versions of drivers for your sound and video cards.  Also, don't start Gal Civ from the flash menu if you installed from the CD.  Make a shortcut that points directly to galciv.exe or use Stardock Central.
