How did you find Wincustomize?

How did you find Wincustomize? Did you find it through another customizations site? A friend? Luck?

This is how I found Wincustomize:

My school was on a field trip to CNC (College of new Caledonia... nice place:))
and I had signed up to go to a class in Computer Networking (just to check it out).
So, I was in the CompNet classroom and I saw this guy using WindowBlinds, and I ask
him how he changed his theme to something other than the Windows defaults (silver,
blue, green, classic) and he told me about Wincustomize, and told me about WindowBlinds.
So, the next oppertunity I get, I check it out, and end up customizing my desktop
with Tiggz's GT3 theme (still one of my favourites). I got a Wincustomize Membership
(not a subscription), checked out the proggys, got them, used them, found different skins
them, etc. I then decided to try my hand at skinning. I started with Logons, using other
peoples graphics. I advanced to using MSPaint, then Irfanview, then CorelDRAW. Now I'm an
active contributer to the Wincustomize community, and learning how to use Adobe Photoshop.
(Two of the best proggys in the world- CorelDRAW and Photoshop). Thats my story, so whats yours?

Saw that I could not change the various colors in the explorer shell in XP as I had previously been able to in 9x and 2000.

I tried out "Plus! for Windows XP" and thought it was fun, but still did not let me design my own GUI look.

Then saw a Japanese exchange students laptop with XP style explorer shell in different color combinations and an analog clock on the deskop and realized there were some third party programs available to do this job.

Went to Download.com and ran a search for GUI customization and found WindowBlinds. I downloaded WB and installed it, ran it and changed the shell, unloaded it (at first I was concerned because it unloaded to the Classic theme in a creme color, then found I was able to reapply XP default through Display Properties). I immediately went to Stardock site, and read about Object Desktop. Here I ran into a reference to WC.

I immediately purchased Object Desktop and a WinCustomize subscription.

I have been happy ever since.

I found Wincustomize through the MS site actually..
I built a new PC, with all the latest "Buzzers and bells" and of course windows98 was just not going to run all the goodies I have bought and installed into the machine, so winXP it is..
I have always been a desktop theme addict, could never stand windows standard, windows XP is no different so I began searching for solutions..

I was at the MS site considering a DL of one of the "Plus" programs when I stumbled upon Windowblinds, well of course I just HAD to investigate this! LoL...
I had a previous encounter with an old style of WB's in a desktop theme known as "GhostBusters", I always thought that theme was too cool! but I never really looked for windowblinds until I began using XP..
I am so glad I found WC and WB's..saved my life..::nods:: thats the truth!..LoL

Had my computer about a month. Was using MSN. Had finished downloading something or the other & I saw a link on the left of the download mgr for more downloads. Clicked it, ended up at I think Cnet, browsed, did a search for desktop enhancements and came across window blinds. Put the site in the address and cruised on over. Looked it over, went over to Stardock and ordered the disk.

I got into using skinned programs originally through Winamp. In searching for skins for it I ended up finding skinz.org. Poking through that site at various times to check out other programs that one could skin I found Windowblinds. I can't recall if it was before skinz.org went down or after, but either way the appearance of Wincustomize helped secure a home for me for totally re-vamping the boring Windows look.

You know, I seriously can't think of how I came across this site. I know I came here before DA by like 20days. I found out about DA through this site. Hmm, now that's a interesting question. I just can't remember.

Skinz.org died and I joined here not long after it opened. It's been interesting to watch the development (and lack of) at all the skin sites that were going when skinz.org died.

I found WC while downloading Visual Styles from Devian Art for my other program. I noticed a category for Windowblinds, and here I am!

I got that first XP computer, found out that there was not built in customization like with past releases. Did a search on Desktop Customization and came up with two names. Tried the free version of both, tossed one in the recycle bin. Been here ever since.

I hope Stardock isn't absorbed by MS like other good companies in the past. I also hope they've got something good ready for Longhorn so that the community will last.

Got my first computer (Windows Me) and was searching for new icons - I swear that's all I was looking for. I found JamesT's 'Globe' icons on this site. Now, 4 years later, I'm using Windowblinds, Iconpackager, CursorXP, Objectbar, Objectdock, DesktopX, WindowsFX, Rainlendar, SysMetrix ... etc. Now I'm running WindowsXP Home - SP2 and I see no end in sight. Damn you JamesT

I arrived here from the old (Stardock) site. I was so dim it took months to realize WC was here and why the old site didn't have skins anymore...

Wow Snowman, i too began from Skinz.org, then it was shut down,and had to go somewhere else. DA was a cold,big,scary world so i found my new family here at WC,a cozy,small world.

When I bought my computer, it came with Win ME...but I got bored with the classic look. While reading through an issue of PC World Magazine, came across a small article about WindowBlinds with a screenshot of several blinds. I went to the WindowBlinds website (Stardock) and liked what I saw...then followed a link for "More Skins" to Wincustomize. Been here since.
