I have music but no sound - please help.

I have recently purchased the game & have downloaded 1.20.
Unfortunately when I run the game I can only get music - no sound effects at all & no sound at all during cut scenes or intro.
If anyone could help I'd really appreciate it as this really detracts from the enjoyment of the game.
PS:I've got the latest drivers/have run dx diag but doesn't seem to help.

Ok, you have run the diagnostics. Hmmm...

I hate to say it, but have you made sure the sound is selected as on? I have done so many stupid mistakes of that sort, so it is the first thing I look for.

Have you checked out the stickied thread at the top of the screen titled "If you are having sound problems, look here"?

If neither of those work, please feel free to say something, preferably in the above mentioned thread.

Actually I have solved the problem now.It doesn't make sense but if i run the game normally I get no sound.However if I launch it via Stardock Central it works fine.Very strange.
