Of late....not so many 'good' ones were being submitted....so the acceptance rate is a little down recently....

We still have a wallpaper section?

LOL

Indeed the quality on the wallpapers has drop a bit. Hopefully more original and better work will start to flow in.

The heart of the matter is this is a skinning site, not an art site (according to the admins); and though I can't find any sort of line between the two, this site's main line theme is skinning Windows applications. Walls are a bonus, even though they advertise best walls on the net. I have been lucky to have a couple accepted, but the ones that I believe are my best, are usually rejected. So I went to Deviant Art where I can tell by downloads and comments what walls people like and don't like. If you want a greater (as in quantity) selection, ceasar999, go to Deviant Art. This Gallery at WC is great, but moderated not always for quality, sometimes for uniqueness or style.

I definitly agree with sleeping dragon.
What I think is my best work gets rejected too.
I think they like having a whole different variety of wallpapers.

The never-ending issue with the wallpaper section here at WC is (and will always be) the way people get 'stuck' in a particular style thus creating a monotony which makes the section boring and very easy for moderators to reject.
Back when I joined WC, every other wall was about the Windows flag, then it was the infamous trend of the Bryce orb over a water plane, then it was the distorted torus and mirror style, then came terragen renders, Apophysis tried to muscle it way around but fell behind and last but not least, the always popular glass orb/sphere style, which in my opinion it's a crowd pleaser when the quality and details are good. Of course all of these fall short to the classic *Britney and Dolphins walls.
I think more walls would be accepted if the authors were to break away from the common styles and start to show more innovation.

-Just my opinion-

BTW RPGFX, the Carbon Arachnia is looking good, the background texture and the brick red color could use some improvement

[*]Please email Jafo for further information on this style.

Back when walls were fun! ... er .. funny! Don't forget Gabe's not-Bryce wall.

Don't forget Gabe's not-Bryce wall.

That one has to rank among the top classic along with Jafo's 'Trapped in Bryce'

I have a question. This is my first post here, so greetings to all. I submitted a wallpaper almost a week ago, but have not heard anything back on whether it will be accepted or denied. Is it WC's policy to not let a person know that his or her work was denied and why? I don't mind getting a rejection notice, but to not receive any correspondence back after submitting my work, well, that's a slap in the face. It also gives me a bad impression of WC.

It is not my intention to whine or badmouth WC, but if this is any indication of how the organization treats its "customers" then I doubt that I will submit any future works. I do understand the time and effort it takes to manage a site like this and the process of reviewing submissions to be posted. However, it is rather insulting not to get any feedback at all after submitting one's work, even if it is not the Mona Lisa.

Am I being too harsh or critical, or am I just impatient?

Check on your skins page, if the wallpaper is there waiting approval, then it has not been moderated, if it doesnt appear on the list, then it was denied.

Only the work accepted will get a notification. Due to hate mail sent in the past by persons whose work was rejected, the admins opted not to send rejection notes.

I believe that most of the people who submit walls have one of eleven characteristics (or more than one):

1. Thick skin. So the rejection doesn't penetrate the exterior.
2. Feathers. So the rejection rolls off the submitter like water off of a ducks' back.
3. A masochistic personality. So that the undignified "disappearing" from the list, brings about a warm feeling.
4. An artists heart. So that one of their desires is for their work of art to be viewed and shared by others.
5. An ignorant mind. So they don't know that they will spend hours on a work that is just clicked away.
6. A desire to contribute. So they keep trying over and over and over and over and over and over and....
7. Misdirected talent. So they should be spending their time doing something other than waiting on wall acceptance.
8. Misdirected lack of talent. So they should be somewhere else on a Friday night.
9. A desire to learn. So they buck up and think that their efforts are actually getting them somewhere.
10.Misguided thought process.. So they actually think that acceptance here means something.
11.Carte Blanche acceptance of any upload. So they pity the others ... or not
