Hi All!

I know how painful it is to deal with Newbie questions but I was wondering if someone would be kind enough to help me out. Ever since playing Alpha Centuri I have been in search for a game that came close to touching its greatness. After playing GalCiv last night for the first time last night it took me back to the AC memories, needless to say I thoroughly the enjoyed this game. Ok, enough babble and onto the questions.
1. I don’t have an internet connection at home only at work so I guess I will need to writ down the SN next time to get the Galactic Civilizations 1.1 update. Will I need this update in order for things from the library?
2. Who makes the best downloads?
3. Is there any official downloads from the library?

Welcome t the forum.

1) Yes you need your SN to download the updates. The latest version of the game is 1.13. There is also a bonus pack for download, that was released shortly after the game, and a free expansion made available since last september I think.
The best way to get it all is, in my opinion, to have the Stardock Central software. It will show you the latest available version, and allows you to archive it, so you can install it later (on your home computer)
There have always been many mods. I don't know about any compatibility issues, but I guess it's safer to have the latest one (many corrections and balancing have been made since 1.0)

2) I'm not sure what you mean :notsure: . You can get all the mods from the library. there is also Lord Megatron website. He has been testing the mods, and classifying them. I suggest you start there :) . He has recently taken over organizing the library and all the mods. Maybe you should chech the thread "Galciv Library". Lord Megatron will be certainly more able than me to answer specific questions about mods.

3)all mods in the library were made by players. As far as I know there are no official ones. That's way I suggets you try LM site first, since you can be sure that these mods work fine and won't pose a problem if you try to submit your score to the metaverse.

Thanks for the info & sugestions guys! I thought this game was pretty new but I guess not. In ether case it looks like it will be around for a while. How much does updating to version 1.13 actually change the game?

I can't seem to find the changes history of the patch. I can tell you however, that the game is much better with the many tweaks that have been made based on players feedback.

Hmm is version 1.13 on this site? because after I downloaded stardock it says I have the wrong SN for galciv. But i brought in my sn from home today and this site excepted it... I was able to download galciv110a_expandeduniverse.exe Well, its a start I guess. ;)

Although there is a glitch or two in the current patch, another is due out shortly. Since the game first came out, it's had a free expansion, AI upgrades, rules tweaks, and more. Definitely want to patch. You'll get lost in the forum discussion otherwise, as nobody's playing the prehistoric patch versions any more, so nobody's talkin about those. :D Good luck.
