Game crashes after short play

I have the German version of the game here, but only found English patches, so installed those.
I can play for about 5 minutes, then the game crashes and gives me my desktop again.
Does anybody know this problem? What can I do about it?
Installed version is the 1.12, and all sound/video drivers are up to date.

Also I think the contrast between background colour and text colour is not enough. Can I change the colour of the text somewhere?
