Firefox is about to die..

Well there's only 10 more days left in January and Firefox has ONE skin in that section. Suffice to say, it's not a section that's in demand it appears.

Barring a miracle, on Feb 1 it's no longer going to be displayed on the site by default (the section won't be removed but it will no longer show up).  It'll go with Beatnik and KewlPad and other programs whose skins aren't heavily in demand.

Well, let's see the one skin that is there is getting about 800 DLs a day. That sounds like good demand to me. Additionally, there are a few other skinners working on themes.

Maybe WC can take a shot at letting the greater skinning community know that it's there, and give it until the end of Feb.

Just my .02 cents.

ufffhhhhhhhh, your title scared me there for a while .

I agree with Wicked, I have heard of other skinners working on more themes too. Since it doesn't take away much space anyway; could it stay there for a little longer? Pleeeaaase?

I vote for the end of Feb as well. That is Feb 2006
Given more time I'm sure more themes will be made available and FF is the #2 browser accessing WC I beleive.

Brad, keep it around till the end of February, one more month to prove itself, that oughta do it. If it doesn't pick up by then, then by all means, send it into oblivion, but it hasn't been around that long yet to warrant its removal, imo. Give it a bit for the word to spread and for some people to fine tune their skins

End of February!

I'm working on one, due to being busy with other stuff, it's taking me longer then expected.

I say keep it up. If we have even a couple FF skins, it'll draw people. I dont see a ton of suites or IP themes uploaded, but the ones that go up are really good.

We'll see where it is by the end of January. If it's still at 1 skin then no, it's done. If it has a few more skins in there, then we can let it go until the end of Feb to see if it picks up.

I wouldnt mind seeing a selection in there, but I dont see this happening for a few more months. People might be more comfortable with it by then.

Personally I don't think a months time on the list is enough, especially considering there wasn't any advanced notice that it was going to appear. Shunting it off to "never neverland" by hiding it is a sure way to kill the section I feel. I definitely feel another month is warranted.
Also it would help if the new sections were added to SDC as well. Not that has anything to do with new skins being uploaded, but some of us use that more to keep up with new skins.
Hopefully if anything those this thread will get those working on them to upload what they have so you are aware that it is an important section to have.

Sorry but the other sections seem to be doing fine.  1 skin in 1 month is not acceptable. This isn't the minor leagues.

If you guys want a Firefox section, find some Firefox skinners to upload their stuff. Otherwise there's not enough demand to justify such a prominent spot.

Frogboy, Im sure you have the stats, so just out of curiosity, how much does the placement of the different section icons affect their traffic?
At my present rate my FF skin will probably never see the light of day, but it sounds like the addition of the section has generated a lot of interest among the established skinners here.
With that kind of talent, I would hope we would see some premier work posted here. Enough to draw the attention of the "themers" in the FF community, who may not be regulars at WC.

I'm working on mine now, as soon as I can get pass this wall, then I'll be alot closer to being done. The browser I'm using right now has what I have done so far and it doesn't look bad. I still got a bunch of icons to make that I normally don't see and get this .css files situated. The reason some might not be posted is because it takes alot to make them and a huge amount of people don't know how to skin the program.

If you go to https://addons.update.mozilla.org/themes/?application={ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384} and look through the top 5 popular themes, only one of the authors (see below) has a published email. Kind of hard to spread the word to someone you can't get hold of. The section is pretty new. It may take some time for word to get around to those who may not frequent this site. BTW, I did send an email to Arvid Axelsson, the author of the Qute theme, letting him know about the new section.

Deviant art only has 71 firefox skins, and considering it's been up around 6 months longer than here, and you know how much devart gets spammed. Me-thinks firefox just needs a little more time to pick up and then it's going to pick up pretty well. You could also note how much more difficult firefox is to skin and how few, (and how few decent) tutorials there are for it. Everyone has easy resources on how to skin the others. I won't say give it till the end of feb, but I'd definetly say once people find out HOW to skin it you could expect it to take off. But correct me if I'm assuming wrong, if firefox dissapears off the default list and later starts to take off, firefox would get resurrected no?

I'm new around here and would personally love to see more Firefox skins but, just to add my ten-penneth, the one skin that is on WC is far better than any I've found on the Mozilla site. I'd love to see other skins up here and if we know they're being developed can you keep the category open a little longer, just to allow developers to get them finished?

Hmmm...well i havent been here that long to know the politics, but being one who always thinks that things deserve a chance, perhaps there would be other options that could be explored with it...like maybe combining all the Firefox into one, meaning like the icons, programs, etc. Just a thought.
thats a negative, firefox might take off, might die, but it doesn't deserve special treatment.

I was hoping for a post telling me that ie 7 was just released. or that it was found out that firefox contains aol spyware...or something

I hope I dont recieve any heat for this comment but I have to be honest.
Since the release of the "Fire Fox" skin, I went and downloaded Fire Fox browser. I installed it and configured it the way I wanted it to be. Then I downloaded the skin that was released for it "SkinPlant" which looks great, dont get me wrong.

I just dont like it. I use Crazy Browser and find it much easier and just as effective. Fire Fox just doesnt compare in my eyes. I just dont see the flare in fire fox and also would'nt mind seeing it get the boot.

Im just voicing my opinion.

However, I must also say. I dont see the harm in giving it a few extra weeks on the board to atleast allow those who have been working on thier themes to finish them off and upload them.

Goodluck all.

That great thing about firefox is it's alot secured then the other browsers and the extensions you can install are amazing. You can do all types of stuff with firefox that you can't with other browsers.
