Enhanced Dialog Beta Reports

Have a bug? Report it here!

The first beta of Enhanced Dialogs is now available for Object Desktop users.  Enhanced File Dialogs seamlessly hook in to replace the standard Windows file dialogs. Now users can control which icons show up on the left, always have resizable dialogs, and they actually remember what view you last used (details, icons, etc.).

If you don't already have Object Desktop, definitely look at getting it.  It's a must-have utility suite for enhancing your Windows experience. www.objectdesktop.com.

Let us know any problems you might have with it.

When I click recent folders a box opens below (outside) the window which is empty.
It does not work with Office 2003, AutoCAD 2005, & Paint Shop Pro v8 but seems to work with the other installed software I have. I like it, it will be useful with the programs it works on but would be exceptional if it worked with Office and AutoCAD.

I too have had the problem of clicking on recent folders and having the box pop up in random places. Sometimes it is in the bottom right corner of the screen, at times the top right. It seems to wander.

The other bug I encountered that caused me to uninstall also occured while clicking on the Recent folders button. I was attempting to save a project in Expression 3 and hit the recend folders button only to have the dialog and the program shut down entirely on me. Never, ever happened before.

It disables anti-virus and security apps and disables JavaScript in IE 6 under WinXP sp1 and sp2.

Yes, after installation, Norton Antivirus always started up as disabled. Also, never worked with Photoshop Elements or OfficeXP. After a while it stopped working completely and I uninstalled it.

Was working fine - was liking it - but it just stopped working. Now, I load the application and the preferences dialog box opens, but when I click ok, the program exits (closes). Settings.exe is in the processes list when you open the program, when you click "ok" it goes away.

Tried uninstalling & reinstalling. Still doesn't work.

Look forward to having it working

I really hope StarDock puts effort toward updating this and fixing the bugs people have reported. Unlike most of the OD offerings, which are just eye candy (not that I'm knocking them; we need eye candy), Enhanced Dialog is an actual productivity tool. I, for one, have needed (not just wanted) its function for years.

PLEASE don't let this program languish in obscurity like ObjectBar and DesktopX did for so long. ED is a potentially GREAT productivity tool.

Unlike most of the OD offerings, which are just eye candy

You've got to be kidding. Just eye candy? Off hand, the only two I can think of that don't actually add any functionality are BootSkin, and LogonStudio. To call DesktopX, ObjectDockPlus, WindowBlinds, etc., "just eye candy", sounds uninformed.

But anyway, I too am anxiously awaiting the next release of ED

I'm thinking that the "eye candy" reference wasn't a knock. Ojbectbar, object dock, windowblinds, desktopx all add a different kind of functionality. I think the big draw of those is to get to adjust the "look and feel" of the OS. Enhanced Dialogue changes/enhances a basic function of windows. You're not using it because it changes a look, but because it increases the ease with which you do something. I love objectdock, but you can do something very similar with a simple quick launch type bar in windows (it's just not as pretty or as featured).

I think Pariah is a fan of all of it but is just saying he finds ED particularly useful for the stuff he's doing.

I agree wit you Wizop that I hope it doesn't lanuish like objectbar has for so long. I'd use ED *all* day. The only other program that comes close to that use is windowblinds.

So Brad, what's up with ED development?

Couldn't creat a new topic, so posted this here instead..

Wow, it seems like all the stuff i'm using on my computer has slight compatibility problems with enhanced dialog (which i love...enchanced dialog, not the problems !!)

i have photoshop CS2, and when i come to save a file (either save. or save as) it will go through the process, but only save it as a psd file, no matter what you do...for example, i open a photoshop file, save it as a jpg...photoshop doesn't bring up the jpeg options box, saves it with 'maximum psd compatibility'...when i go to the newly saved jpg file (which has a jpg extension) the file is unreadable by any program, including windows picture viewer....the same problem occurs when saving as psd, gif, etc etc

the 'save as' dialog box in also incorrectly displayed...

you can see the bit by 'save in' at the top is not correct...also, this is the size it comes up (very long) and it is not possible to resize the 'save as' dialog box

in fact i can get CS2 to crash pretty easily...if i select the open a file dialog, then cancel that will set CS2 to 'not responding'...it definately seems unhappy with enhanced dialog

when i add CS2 to the enhanced dialog exclusion, the problem goes away

i hope the above is clear...if not let me know and i'll try to be clearer

Axialis Iconworkshop 5 and the latest beta-version of IconDeveloper (1.1.1 build 953) crashes.

I can't get this version 0.87(b).002 to do anything at all. I've uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled, rebooted....nothing

OK, this is what I had to do: Uninstall. Delete remnant directory. Run CC Cleaner. Run RegCleaner. Reboot. Install. Reboot.

This is starting to become a habit when updating Stardock Apps. A fairly new phenomenon. Why is it getting so complicated lately?

I get an exception in enhdlg.dll when I use Object Edit "File, Save as" and in iRider doing a "file open"

Windows XP + SP2

So Photoshop is about the only app that this new build DOES work for.
Ok, you dropped a serious ball on this build, but don't keep us waiting too long for a fix.

I also have serious problems with ED. Running XP SP2. Disabled ED for Open and Save dialogs.
Found a solution for JavaScript in IE 6. Run the following RegSvrs.
Regsvr32 jscript.dll
Regsvr32 vbscript.dll

Hope it will be fixed soon.

TCM

I have no problems with NAV, but I'm using corp version 8.1. It does not work at all with Office 2003 or Office 2002. Doesn't work with Wordperfect 10 or 12. Doesn't work with Paint Shop Pro 9. Doesn't work with Guitar Tracks Pro 4.

Love it when it works. Hope to see some work on this app in the near future. I believe it's one of those apps that if you like it, you'll use it all the time.

An uninstall, reboot, and reinstall, and another reboot fixed my exception in enhdlg.dll. Haven't noticed any other problems, but then again I haven't been seriously looking...

i have just installed the new 0.88[b].002 ED, and though it has fixed the problem with other apps 'save as', there are still major issues with Photoshop CS2..

whereas the 'save as' box is now correctly drawn, though it is still huge, but it will re-size, though not remember the size next time you use it....you can now 'save as' another file type, as before, but it will not save it as that new file type..instead it will save the file as a psd file...again the saved file will have the filename test.png but it will actually be in psd format....so no change

Love the program. Great idea

Sadly, it doesn't play well with Macromedia Fireworks MX 2004; which I use on a daily basis. I get Fireworks' informative "An internal error has occured; an internal error has occured" dialog box when starting up, and again when trying to export files.

Removed it from the 'forced' apps, no effect
Added it to the 'excluded' apps, no effect
Uninstalled ED entirely... no effect it was permanently broken. Only system restore or a repair install fixed the issue.

Just installed enhanced dialog 0.89[b].002.
When I run internet explorer,it works ok,but if I close IE
and start it again it won't run, though it is showing in task manager.
Uninstalled enhanced dialog and IE works ok.
Tried uninstall/install a few times but still the same.
Tried unticking IE in forced dialog and adding IE to exclusion dialog. Still
no go.
Other than that, enhanced dialog works fine.
Firefox works ok.
XP pro sp2.

The latest build just killed my Visual Studio .NET 2003 until I uninstalled it. I got that mysterious "Unknown Error" dialog on start up... Man, that sucks too, 'cuz I really like that program.

My Visual Studio .NET won't startup anymore . I tried almost everything (uninstalling, reinstalling VS .NET, reinstalling SP2). Anyone suggestions how to fix this before I reinstall XP .

The tooltips appear as weird characters on all opn/save dialogs.

EDIT::nm, it works now.

Photoshop CS2 also doesn't save correctly with Enhanced Dialog.
