Wincustomize subscription

I am sure this has been asked a billion times try not to be to bitter but I have to ask.

I only download windowblind skins, some icon packages, and I am trying to get desktopX objects to work but only download rarely.

Does the Wincustomize subscription make sense only if you do a lot of downloading ?

What is the extra content Frogboy (Brad) is refering to ?

Indeed it does - it gives you unlimited downloads, instead of the 50 meg cap

NightTrain,

2 premium skins

Does the documentation state the premium skins you have access to ?

No download cap

Not a concern, I download 3 Windowblind skins, two icon packages.

wincustomize browser

Not sure that this is a selling point, what is wrong with browsing wincustomize site with IE ?

personal web page

Once again not sure if this is a selling point my ISP also gives e webspace I do not use.

I have to spend more time downloading and trying different components but when I find a desktop I like I tend to stick with it.

Most importantly...You are supporting the site and all the artists with your subscription.

Good reason, but many artists charge for premium skins.

Snowman,

The point is I download no where near 50Meg (Objectdesktop Subcription) cap.

As an Object Desktop Subscriber, you have no download cap, so that bit of info is irrelevant.

I can only recommend a subscription. I started with occasional downloads also, but that didn't last long. I bought a subscription and have been very pleased with what they offer.

The 50 meg cap is cumulative, not seasonal/timed.

Eventually, if you continue to 'enjoy' the skinners' works you will hit that 'cap' and financial contribution will make clear sense....

You really should think of a subscription as a way to give back to the site and those who contribute to it. Now that skinners will get a percentage of subscription revenue, it's really a way to thank them and help keep the site alive. That alone makes a subscription worth while.

I do subscribe to Objectdesktop. You would think part of that would go to the support ?

I been OD subscriber for over a year I renewed at least once and in those two years or so I never downloaded more than 5 or 6 items.

I may just add the Wincustomize subscription anyway. It really is not all that expensive.

It used to be the objectdesktop subscription would pay for everything but now you have to buy, buy, buy....

Want CursorXp Pro more money
Want DesktopX 2.0 or is it squared more money
Want Objectbar 2.0 more money
Want some premium skins, icon set more money
Want a custom browser more money

For the life of me I do not know why Stardock can not create a premium objectdesktop subscription and stop asking for more cash.

DX2.0 is part of Object Desktop, and does not cost extra.
ObjectBar2.0 hasn't been released yet, and will cost no additional money for OD subscribers.

While I think I've probably bought a fair amount - some of it just a kinda solidarity/support thing - but I guess the easy answer is if you're not sure, don't buy . If you find you're missing out - or just wanna contribute a little more, then buy more - if you feel you're getting all you need and want from Stardock & WC and you feel as if you've contributed enough to feel comfortable at your level of involvement - then fine again.

They are wonderful at offering up the bait here - but most of us finally get reeled in cos we just can't stop biting at the goodies.

Thanks for clearing up my confusion with the desktopX thing.

I just assumed since there is not even a beta for objectbar 2.0 on SDCentral it cost extra. Glad to here it will make it to the OD.

As I said I think I will subcribe to Wincustomize, who knows once I subscribe I may not feel a guility downloading stuff and download more.

If I do not like it or use it next year I can always pass on renewing

WC subscriptions last 2 years! But as an OD subscriber, you shouldn't feel guilty about downloading anyway............. not trying to talk you out of subscibing to WC, but making sure you understand what's what.

When I was ranting above, I meet Objectdock Plus is not a OD component.

I went home last night opened SDcentral and I did confirm that OD Subcribers have unlimited download capacity.

I took the plung anyway, I did subcribe, not sure if I needed to but for $20.

For some reason I did not receive and order conformation from the Stardock Store but I am not to worried because I did get a serial number after I purchase the program and I think if you ever lose your serial number harddrive crash etc... Stardock can look it up for you.

Now as far as program is concerned.

I spent sometime last night trying to log in to the WC Browser I did not work. I asked Stardock to send me an Email for my Stardock Account password that did not work. I even tried to register my Alias to the Wincustomize account that did not work. I at that point was not sure if Stardock was not emailing me anything or my ISP email server was the issue. So after using chat last night I decided to take the advice for the people on line just access the wincustomise account from SDcentral.
After I cut and pasted my serial number in Sdcentral I got in. Strange thing is the WC Browser which I tried latter decide to accept my Email address and password after all this

Ok the jury is out on the WC subscription.

On SD Central I did download the two bonus themes I have not tried them yet but in the dynamic world of OD component upgrades these two themes
look pretty old. I doubt for example the WB Skins in the themes have been updated to WB 4.4.

Not sure I like the interface that WC content is presented in.

For example say if I get tired of my WB skin in the past I go to the WC Web site search for skins rated "10", have a large number of downloads, little or no negative comments in the user reviews, and something that catches my eye. If the WB skin passes all these tests I would download it.
The way content is presented in SDcentral and the WC Browser I am not sure I can do the same research.

OH well the whole thing only cost $20.

I welcome any comments, just keep in mind I still have not spent much time browsing I may in the end change my mind.

Is it easier to find content from the Wincustomise web site or the Wincustomise Browser/SDCentral ?

I am correct if I ever lose my Serial numbers for any Stardock product as long as I can provide Stardock with some information Email address, Name etc.. they will be able to look up my account numbers ?

I think where you download from is a matter of personal preference. I actually download through both SDCentral and the site.

You can go to https://www.stardock.com/support.asp and enter your e-mail address if you need info about your account.
