I guess I have two questions.

Is DesktopX 2 really that hard to understand.

Is there Detailed documention I can read a understand ?

I am thinking about a 2 page manual not 40 pages of technincal jargon.

Is there an easy way to edit ojects ?

A user friendly graphical interface would be nice.

Heh, I've had DesktopX for a few days and have already figured out most of the stuff. It's really not as hard as you thing, but you have to experiment with different things. Play around, study what certain things do what.

Just dont play around with the DX program files themselves. Play around with the objects all you want. Play with the properties for each of the objects. Experiment with them. If you screw them up beyond recognition, you can always Delete and re-download them.

As for the weather problem, I believe if you go to www.weather.com and find the location you're at, click on it ...and in addressbar of the page that comes up there should be a code you can copy into the weather object.

Someone else needs to chime in here to tell you what that code looks like. but it's a series of letters and numbers, I think.

Try double clicking on that link where the tool tip is, and it might let you change the zip code.
A lot of object/theme designers seem to overlook this and often do not set the properties of the clickable object to "single-click".

Should work thanks, do not really have a ZIP code in Canada so I was trying all sorts of City combos.

What weather object are you using in particular? One other thing to consider is that weather objects do not work well behind a proxy. Let me know if that is your case and I might be able to help.

to edit the script of an object right click on it and click edit script. in the case of the weather object, the backround (behind the weather icons) is the object that contains the main script. its object id is XML weatherbug

Guys, you can stop with the suggestions, I'm sure his problem is solved.

His problem was that the tooltip said to click on the city name to change the location but when he was writting "Toronto, Canada" it wasn't working. The solution to this problem is that he needs to enter the code for the city of Toronto used by Weather.com, which is CAXX0504. Americans can type in their ZIP code, but that doesn't work for International users.

Just as a general rule - it's probably better to start out with widgets before working into the bowels of object editing and theme editing.

But it's true though that his original post had two parts, the weather docklet and the object with links to some French sites.  Maybe Thechinician you can tell us what particular theme you are using and maybe we could tell you how to change those links to the ones you want.
