T-Mobil bites, my son was with T-Mobil when he went into the service so I had it where our calls from CA. to FL. did not cost extra... ( one I use for off business calls, changing it over to the business acount but keeping it for personal use )

Sprint PCS functions pretty well throughout the states... (one we use for business and our Treo600 and 610's)

Verizon constantly changes pricing and works well otherwise with large coverage..

Alltell(spelling) is one a friend uses and he swears by it.

No one has service worth mentioning out at 4 corners of the Navijo Resevation pretty much.

just my personal opinions on those...

oh and for the most part the lower end free phones are not any real bonus becuase they fail faster and need service more often fomr what we've found over the years...

I have ATnT....which merged with cingular??? Anyway they use different technology than Sprint so you can't roam onto Sprint's towers. Being out in the sticks, most important thing for me was coverage.....with Sprint it was bad and non-existant in some areas, like my house with ATnT I can get a signal if I stand out in the yard, on one foot holding a coathanger wrapped with tinfoil.....IP's right about the lowend phones (you'd be surprised how much better a phone you get if you spend $50 vs. $0, with rebates and whatnot mine was a $200 Motorola) and about Sprint, but you gotta check coverage, physically if they'll let you take the phone.

Whenever Dunbarton allows a tower....big battle over it in the past, both Sprint and ATnT have plans to hook up to it. The town's basically PO'd cause the best site for the tower is in some guy's backyard, not public property, so they wouldn't get the 25-year rental contract monies and now they're trying to figure out a way to tax it out of someone before they'll let the tower in

I have T-Mobile and a Nokia 6010. (Yes it has a color screen) I love them. Up here in the Pacific Northwest they are decent. My plan includes free weekends, 300 anytime minutes, and T-Zones (Internet) for 30 a month. Never had a problem with T-Mobile.

Nextel is useless! The service is the worst. The phones last 1 year no matter how good you prtect it. Then you have to fork out another couple hundered bucks for a new one.

They will call you 7 times a week to offer you this and that. You will recieve random spam messages on your phone.

I have the Verizon Pay as You Go Plan. 35 cents first minute, 10 cents a min afterward. Good for if you don't use it alot.

I am in Maryland but I have used it in New Jersey, Virginia, and Conneticut.

verizon family plan here..
after the initial take over from bell atlantic, things have run more smoothly, and keeping a running dialogue with customer support has guaranteed me best quality service at lowest prices.
I rarely change my pricing plan, as each time you change, you lose one of the benefits you originally recieved.In fact , there's only one time I've changed my plan and that was to go from the single phone service to family.
remember if you have verizon you don't HAVE to change your plan each time you renew your contract with them. though they will try and convince you that you want another plan...

Family members have used comcast and sprint and have always had problems both in billing and in connection difficulties. verizon is the most stable of the companies in this area(also on the peninsula that elvee is on -) ).
I have travelled from maine to georgia with my phones and have not yet had any difficulties in gaining connection or keeping that connection.
Another note,... if you do use verizon , don't forget to dial *228 every month or so, and push the #2 button once connected. this will ensure that your phone is updated to the latest coverage area, and will prevent "roaming" icon from coming up in places you should have "in area" calling.

I have had sprint pcs four about 3 years now not one problem to report never had a droped call. had verison for a year and it was the worst service ever.

Had Sprint PCS and ATnT, both decent, but Verizon beats them both hands down. At work all the Mgrs have NExtels, we even have a booster antenna on the building, and they still cant get a signal unles they stand under the antenna. I can walk all over the building with my Verizon and get reception. My sister has Cingular, and she has dropped calls left and right, everyone I know that has Cingular hates them. Sprint PCS had almost the same coverage as Verizon, but billing and customer service were deplorable!

Are these providers you are talking about "Analog or Digital". Just wondering?

When I wrote this thread I was sort of at a toss up between Verizon and Tmobile, I'd like to have considered Cingular too as rollover just makes so much sense, but it's not available here. ANYHOW I think after reading everyones response and whatnot I'm inclined to go with Verizon. Thanks everyone

Although I can see why the camera can come in handy though.

Sprint PCS family plan

2000 anytime minutes shared between my girlfriend and I. Free PCS to PCS. Unlimited nights and weekends after 9pm Friday. Unlimited Vision for spending more money on them damn Voice Ring Tones With a 2 yr.Contract, I received two Sanyo RL4920(ReadyLink...WalkieTalkie style) phones for only $74 total. (This phone is Awesome)

The Shared plan is for a total $120 month, if we decide to keep the Vision.

Why's that?

I have used Sprint PCS since 98 and really can't complain. But I may be a little bias my husband works for Sprint PCS and my mother works for AT&T. We have used alot of different companies systems and phones over the years working for cellular phone companies and I would have to say they are the better ones. Verizon wasn't too bad but they did lose service often. I saw mentioned above about towers not working off other companies and they usually do, at least here in houston I know they do. Alot of where you get service at depends on where the towers are and what your service plan is. Anyway, probably told you more than you wanted to know. Sprint PCS or AT&T is they way I would go, that's just my opinion. And I don't just say those do to family working there, out of the companies we have tested they are the better of the bunch. There technology is a bit more up to date.

Why stay away from Verizon? Because they always overcharge you all around. Same could be said about Sprint if you use all the features.

No cell phone here.......#1 we live in a 'dead zone' so it wouldn't work here at home...#2 cable and hi speed not available here so have to use dial up for computer so I need to keep a landline for puter anyway...#3 I've made it this far without one so I don't really feel any overwhelming need to be in touch when I'm not at home...if I'm not here, I'm not here. lol ...#4 Sure as heck don't need another bill!

No cell phone here. For me it's just like saying:
"Hey everyone, call me ANYTIME, anyplace and I'll be there for you, and if I DON'T happen to answer my phone after your repeated calling efforts you can give me strife about it later and ask me questions like "Why didn't you answer your phone earlier? I called numerous times!"

me thinks melikes my privacy. If they can't get a hold of me on the ol landline it either means I'm avoiding peeps or I'm out in any case don't wish to be bothered.

..but.. this is just my opinion lol.. If I were more important I'd certainly have one but I'm just Mr. Nobody [and no one's really trying to call me anyhow haha].. Wishful thinking for me.

mine works both analog and digital.
I understand that verizon isn't the end all beat all of companies, but remember, I live in a remote area, we might as well be an island for all the rest of America remembers we're here(except in the summer when everyone and their sister comes here to roast in the sunshine.) we're not on the truck routes, and most companies seem to have forgotten that there are actually people here during the winter months. I guess that's why we don't get such great service with the other companies mentioned. To date, for this specific area, verizon has the best coverage and plans.
If I were to live somewhere else, I might be swayed to another company more readily.
There are pro's and cons to every wireless solution.
