like your point of view for a sec....

*male enlargement thingy popup just scared the crap outta me* I'm so sick of being stalked by ecommerce.

Anyway, I just joined the network and I'm futsing around the game and very happy about a couple of features.

The competition concept is brilliant. I've been quickly grossed out and overrun in some venues.

I printed out the manual that is sitting in the Stardock control center, or whatever it is called, and it was nearly unreadable. I just this minute found one nearly ready to go at one of the fan sites... much better.

The semi-official one has a grey background and fortunately the pages were small, leaving a bit of toner in my printer. Yet, the typeface -- well chosen I thought -- was set to bold, it looks like, and my Sony moniter is having trouble with it.

That said, here is the question I'm most concerned with at the moment.

I'm not a player of anything that depends on speed, no matter how well you know the game. Maybe I'm just getting too old or too mellow or too something.

Could one of you just speak to the general pace of the game and how time is dealt with and when or where I have to just close my eyes and shoot everything as fast as possible?

The only games I have been able to stick with are HomeWorld and Cataclysm and I can just barely hang in; the pace is hard for me.

Am I asking this correctly? I don't have any trouble understanding games, I have just never run a four minute mile before computer gaming appeared.

(I can't get very far in the Linux tuxedo downhill racing game which I love---sob. It's not too fast to navigate, but the time limit is too short for me and you only get a few shots and you have to start over, so I will never see passed the first three or four courses... *sigh*)

Pace is as slow as you want it to be. Much like chess you make your moves and then when you are done the computer makes their moves.

karmegeddon,
My impression is that the pace in this game is a lot slower than in homeworld. Since this is turn based, you can take all the time you want.

And the game can also develop itself at a slow pace, if you can hold off the AI (by building up some military, just to show that you can defend yourself if needed).
I like to play taking my time. All my time ;p . The only time in the game I don't like too much is the very beginning since you must enter the planet-search-rush or die very early on.

But that's the only time in the game you must rush. At times later in the game, you can feel the preasure when time is a factor (when building defenses when you see the enemy transports in their way, etc). But that's just "time-exciting" and not a matter of speed in your gameplay or a matter of who can click the mouse faster (like in real time strategy).

Anyway, my advice is get this game, it's great. The best in a long time in 4x games. And to put it simply, it's already one of my favorites (with shogun & medieval total war).

Hope this helps :)

Bobo say take all day if want. Is no comparing turn base and real time pace. One never stop. Other always stop until hit turn button. Bobo not understand question.

BoBo and karmegeddon attend different schools together.

I have part of package; am trying to download 366mb multimedia brick tonight.

Played a "tutorial" on bit this morning, got lost, in a way.

Thank you so much for pointing out the "turn" thing... still got this twitch from seeing the BEAST come out of nowhere...I'll be in sickbay getting checked out...
