Assuming you're on Windows 11 on your new laptop, Fences 2 is not compatible with that version.

Yes, it does. I think the upgrade is worth it. Fences 6 has a lot of great features added compared to Fences 2 that was released 14 years ago.

Correct yes, 14 years of Fences 2 worked out to about 70 cents per year. Costs of maintaining and enhancing a software title are different than what they were before but we hope you find the new version of value. It's a different price structure than you were used to but we offer the subscription for the point of staying up to date, as Windows changes more frequently than it used to.
