I play GalCiv4 everyday, but this morning all of my save files give the error shown in the subject. I checked integrity of game files on Steam and it replaced 3 files, but I still get the same error. Rebooted and check integrity of files again and Steam replaced 3 files again, but same error.
Please help. David
This is not isolated to David, I am having the same problem
The new version of the game that came out today is not compatible with older save. Thankfully you can go in the Beta tab of the Steam settings for GC4 and select build v3.3 which should allow you to finish your game.

Thank you. I'll give this a try. I am a long time fan of Stardock, but not checking for backward compatibility for a new release feels pretty amateur.
Just switched to V3.3 and can confirm it loads the old save files. Thank you Draver.

Yeah this new patch has a LOT of new stuff in it and it changes some of the underlying systems quite a bit making save compatibility much more easily handle by giving access to the old build. Glad you guys are successful at using it. 
.... which is great if you're running via Steam. I am running via the Epic Games Launcher. Upon launching the game I was told "you need to update before you can launch". So I did. Now I can't play my 28 hour saved game. What are my options via the Epic Games Launcher? Limited it seems according to Gemini:
"The Epic Games Launcher does not natively support rolling back game patches".
I have to say a bit more warning would have been appreciated. I think I recall something about getting a key to transfer the game from Epic Games Launcher to Steam but I didn't have a reason to.
Maybe there is another thread explaining what to do under Epic Games Launcher.... <goes off to find help>....
I've requested a Steam key from Stardock. That appears to be my only option.
I played a lot of Galciv III during Covid, I was an early adopter of GalCiv IV but then I moved onto other games. I’ve now had a bit of a renaissance with GalCiv IV and was looking forwards to playing this evening… well, that quickly came to a screeching halt. Perhaps permanently if I'm not able to complete a game that I've invested a significant amount of time into
