I am going to unistall Windowblinds! I wasted my 50 bucs!

Windowblinds does not work! I have installed and reinstalled. I can not get WB to work. Everything goes bad as soon as I turn on Internet Explorer. I try to enter an address or enter a word in a search engine. IE freezez after the first letter typed then promptly crashes. The same thing happens in Outlook Express too. I have no clue what is wrong I have bought earler versions of WB too and they didn't work eather. I should have know better. But if anyone can succesfully help me and get this program to work I will eat my words. So utill then I am going back to Style XP I know it is just a hack but it works. Also it seems that the people who make this program don't really help eather. E-Mails go un answered.

You could allways try IRC.STARDOCK.COM support would be instantaneous.

I can assure you as someone who has used the software for years (since win2k first came out) it works fine... there may be some other issue or conflict going on with you're machine. Go to the stardock support forums or use IRC and I believe that you will find that support will be given.

have you replaced any system dll files with others found in various forums? if the answer is 'yes', try replacing them with the original files and i'm sure wb will work fine. what version of windows are you using? what build of wb? other specifics must be given before anyone can help.

Been using WindowBlinds since version 2.x............. I assure you it works fine and dandy. ........ and btw......WindowBlinds doesn't cost 50 bucks.

Now in order for anyone to help you get it working, you need to provide a little info, you haven't told us what OS you're running.. and listen to Snidley.

Duane, it would help your cause a lot if you realized something, Windowblinds is installed and running fine on millions of machines. Personally, I've been running it since 1999 non-stop, through different OS's and every imaginable configuration. I've also run all sorts of other customized shells and apps and through it all, there has often been some bug or tweak that needed attention.

In that time I've felt Stardock was outstanding in addressing user issues, but you need to go where the programmers are if you're having some serious problems. Either the newsgroups or IRC are the best places to get suggestions. If it were a problrm with WB then Stardock would want to find out about it and fix it as fast as possible, right? If it's something in your configuration (most likely) then you might find someone there that had the same thing happen and could lead you right to the fix.

Bottom line is, you're having a problem and you need to fix it. That's why skinning has always been a realm where mostly expert users get involved. It's only fairly recently that skinning has had a broad appeal with the general public. Obviously, WB does work or else you'd see millions of people complaining about it. For you to say WB causes problems as severe as you're having only makes it sound like you don't know how to use your computer, which makes using StyleXP way more dangerous than using WB.

Take a deep breath and dig in and fix it. Use the resources of dozens of expert users for advice at the newsgroups and try to catch a programmer on IRC.

Snidely's advice in post #2 is probably right on the money btw.

I can not get WB to work.

So what exactly have you done wrong?
I have bought earler versions of WB too and they didn't work eather.

NEVER had a problem in 6 years or so .... RTFM!
But if anyone can succesfully help me and get this program to work I will eat my words.

RTFM!
Also it seems that the people who make this program don't really help eather. E-Mails go un answered.

The Stardock crew are among the most helpful people I've come across.
Even Brad's OK ....
So utill then I am going back to Style XP I know it is just a hack but it works.

Probably the root cause of your 'problems' .... hacks can do that you know.
BTW ...."Bucks" (not 'bucs')... "Until" (not 'utill') ..... "Freezes" ('freezez'?)...."Either" (not 'eather') ...
I will eat my words

How about starting with these!

honestly Mr.Duane,
I don't understand why you haven't sought out any of the many support options available for stardock products.
of all the software I have ever purchased, Stardock is a.) the most well documented resource and support documents b.) the most prompt and helpful Support personell c.) has the most "users" willing to assist (if asked nicely and not listening to someone trash a product they believe in and love to use.).
So, with all these resources, why are you still having problems? further, if you have had so many problems why have you purchased the product so often(to refer to your words of having purchased wb several times)

I begin to wonder if you have some personal dissagreement with someone connected to stardock and thus feel the need to spew venom to feel "vindicated". shame on you for acting on so childish a vendetta.

Or possibly for some reason you are just being swayed by outside influence, and I understand that some people are easily duped by others, and therefore might mistakenly make statements that could be deemed venomous.
If that's so, do please seek out some of the help I mentioned earlier, and if you cannot wrap your mind around the help given, then thank the people who helped , graciously, and be done with the product without slinging mud. "like a grown up".

Style Xp is a hack and can be dangerous for your computer

Also you probably got a version that was to new for your system because the same thing you described when I tried to run WB4 on Win 98
If you have Win98 you gotta get WB 3

Also it seems that the people who make this program don't really help eather. E-Mails go un answered.

I wonder how many will answer your email in your wonderful "Style Xp Community" I bet your just one of those weirdos who go on our message board to advertize Style Xp. Whe have had them before...
Just give them time and they will reply...

I agree

Maybe you should try un-installing Style Xp

Also you have to switch it to Windows classic before you apply a WB
Reply #12 Top
If you had StyleXP before installing WindowBlinds, you most likely screwed your self. StyleXP hacks and replaces some .dll files.
If you are runing XP try to restore to the point before you installed StyleXP and try installing WB again. If you are runing Win 98-2000, back up all your needed files/documents and take this as a good oportunity to format your hard drive
If you get to solve the problem take this as a lesson on how to NEVER install shell replacement programs that hacks into the system files.

As he says he is going back to StyleXP everything is clear...

I have never had a problem with WindowBlinds and when there was a little glitch all my emails were answered and problems were solved. This discussion group is also extremely helpful...but only if it's help your seeking.

From everything I've heard about StyleXP you'd be making a big mistake in wasting your time with it. But to each his own...WindowBlinds ROCK!

Unable to help given the scant info you've provided. A rant doesn't assist in troubleshooting. Since WB works on PC's with various OS's for thousands or more customers, the program does indeed work. I've used it on pokey old P II's with W98 as well as new XP boxes without the problems you describe. So if you want assistance stick around and provide specific info besides "it doesn't work" and IE/OE freezes, like PC specs, video card info, what other software you have installed like other GUI enhancements, BHO's, etc.

While people can have StyleXP and WB installed at the same time, only one can be used at a time. Since you haven't provided the info regarding what else is active, can't tell if that's the issue. As others have mentioned, if the GUI isn't restored to the native MS GUI and you then apply WB, that could be the source of your problem.

But if you don't really want help and just want to rant, buh bye.

OK! now that I have got everyones attention. I want to appologize for sounding harsh. But I have made several request with stardock and on these boards being as patiant as I can and I did not get a straight answer from any one but to trun thing off that I don't have. Here is my delema, I have purchaced Object desktop and it did cost 50bucks and Window blinds did come with it along with the rest of Stardocks stuff which all works great without Windowblinds. When I purchased Object Desktop Windowblinds was the main reason that I got everything. After all why get one when you can have it all. Here is the problem. Eveything about WB works great...But when I start Internet Explorer All I can do is click on links in the browser if I try to enter a link in the address bar or in a search bar, I enter one letter IE will freze for about 15 seconds then at the end of that 15 seconds Windowblinds unloads from Internet Explorer Only then while WB is still unloaded in IE I try to enter an address in the address bar again and IE promptly crashes out. Now I don't need one's answers to be..."then set WB not to load into IE"... I want it to work.

There I apollogized. Explained it the best I could. So please I want Windoblinds not StyleX-flipping-P.

Thanks Tons For Looking this time

Duane

Check to see if you have Webblinds running....the only thing that is from Stardock that other than WB that might affect IE

Essencay

But I don't have Webblinds. I have searched my PC from front to back I don't have Webblinds. Is there one of the other object programs the may be enulating it so to speak.

My bet would be on there being some other add in to IE causing the problem as WB works fine with a vanilla set up of IE. There are so many possible interactions on any particular system that it would be almost impossible to guess at causes. You could always wipe your machine, re-install Windows and Object Desktop and probably solve it..

More palitable - check for updated video drivers (as so many things depend on those), check your system for viruses/trojans/worms, and try disabling any other apps you have running from starting and try again....this would include any drivers for unusual devices as well as any obvious apps.

What is a vanilla set up?
When you open up SDC check there to see if it has been installed. It hasn't been updated since Nov '03 and isn't needed since WB will skin IE well. Sput makes a good point about checking for the video drivers. I have had previous problems with IE crashing when I didn't have any Stardock products installed and it was all related to my video card drivers.

vanilla = default...out of the box, plain....like "vanilla icecream" - it's what you get if you don't ask for anything special

This may be off the wall, but there are several viri, trojans, browser hijackers that mess with searches of any sort. It might be good if you would run an ONLINE scan and also configure AdAware to do an indepth scan. HiJack This ( http://s89223352.onlinehome.us/mirror/hjt/ ) is another program that might help.

Contact [email protected].  WinCustomize is not a Stardock support channel.

Make sure you provide the following information:

Hardware configuration (particularly video card)

What version of Windows (I assume it must be Windows XP since you mention Style XP).

*Something* has messed up your Internet Explorer control. WindowBlinds doesn't touch that. But it IS possible a bad skin could do something bad.

Here is what I suggest in the meantime: Change your visual style to one of the ones included and then try it.
