Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please try, uninstall Start11, reboot immediately (important), download latest version available in your account product download page: https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products. Install it, reboot immediately again. Retest it and report back.

Thanks for the response. As posted above, Start 11 was the current version. It was installed clean by uninstalling the older version, removing all Stardock and Start 11 registry entries, removing left over Stardock folders from the installation drive, restarting the machine, then installing. 

Are there any known instances of this issue?

Do you have any other application that is running in the background which also change how your Start menu, Taskbar, Explorer work? Application such as, StartAllback, ExplorerPatcher, Open Shell, DisplayFusion etc?

Here is the probable cause. Uninstalled Start 11 ver2.53 that included the current update - removed all traces from the Registry and left over folders.

Installed the V2 of Start 11 that dates back to Dec 2024, i.e. before the current update.

No issue with the Start Button selected to Biohazzard, or any of the others. 

That points to some sort of issue with the current update - at least on my machine, which is a standard Windows 11 Pro setup.

Perhaps of note with experimenting in the last hour or so - the current V2, that includes an update to the version dated Dec 2024, would load a different Start Button than the default upon a restart of Windows - sometimes. That tends to point to Windows having a problem either finding, or loading, the selected Start Button other than the Windows default?

I've not check what happens though if the most recent update to Start 11 is implemented.

Hopefully if someone else runs against this, the above solution may work.

Didn't go down that track, since the issue goes away with ver 2.11. See Reply #6 above for detail that points to something about the 2.53 ver causing the issue - at least on my machine.

Maybe someone could look at what is different in the ver 2.53 code that could cause the failing to retain a selected Start Button.

That probably best be answer by Dev, while wait, try the clean boot. There are multiple reports from user, their issue get resolved just by creating and switching to a new admin account. They might not have similar issue as yours, but, it worth to recommend it.

To Whoever Might Be Looking At This

Re the above suggestion for installing in Safe Mode. Fails to fix the issue. As detailed above, ver 2.11 doesn't create the issue - later versions do.
