I want your opinion and I want to know why this was rejected...

http://skins.wincustomize.com/Asphyxiation/desktop.jpg

This is my wallpaper that I submitted.

I don't know how to reach an admin.

Tell me if I should at least contact one... Or keep trying. I feel like this is better than some of the other ones that I'm seeing on the Wallpaper shots.

I'm posting this here cause I want opinions.

Yes... But I've done alot better.

And I want opinions.

And how to contact and admin
You should really contact one of the Admins .... this is one way of getting some opinions you might not like!
IMHO .... too light and bright (for me!) and rather like an MS 'standard' included with XP.

OK, you asked for it

It looks like a stock photograph with no creativity whatsoever, granted it is a nice looking landscape but I doubt very seriously that I would ever use it as a wallpaper, just not my style.

And that's my opinion

Good Day

I quite like it

not too keen on the taskbar tho

I think it's a very nice wallpaper.. However, it's been done hundreds of times. go to http://www.digitalblasphemy.com and check out the public libraries, you'll find lots of good wallpapers that look very similar to yours. Since this isn't primarily a wallpaper site, they are a bit pickier here than at other sites. I do think it's a nice wall though.

It's okay and better than some of the walls that get accepted here but that doesn't say much other than they're looking for certain standards in walls and yours didn't meet them. It's too bright and change your taskbar to default silver at least.

The word is 'bland'....another is 'unimaginative'....a third would be 'too common'....[though that is a phrase]....

How to contact an admin/mod from your previous thread that yrag linked to:

#8 by sig101 - 2/21/2004 8:34:31 PM
You'd be better off emailing a mod (see the "about" section on the left hand side of the page). This is the recomended approach since the opening of this sort of discussion in a public forum invites comments, judgments, etc from the membership at large that you may not appreciate. A glance at similar threads here by other wall submitters will show what I mean.

(The about section is under "options" on the left hand side of this web page.)

Take your pick. Most likely one of the ones who you see most often participating on the messageboard. Since Jafo (who is an Admin/mod) already commented in this thread you can consider whether or not you wish to further continue the conversation in private.

Its great, if it is done in bryce, photoshop, maya, rhino or something like that, that is.
If it is done by terragen, its nice for you, you can use it and find that you created something nice.
However, the use of terragen dasn't require skills. Everyone can fill in some numbers and let it render. Thats why its too common.

while it is a "cute" image. it lacks any originality, theres hundreds of snow pics out there to choose from. it's to bright from a daily use stand point. theres no sigifiant part of the image that catches the eye and makes me need this land scape. since there are no trees of any kind it would imply to me that it's probably made with terragen, and if i wanted a terragen generated wall id simply choose one from the dozens i have made .... i hope that this responce does not deter you from your quest to make unique and interesting walls, but rather steer you toward making walls that are awe inspireing.

*sigh*

its a very beutiful image. its not terregenned, it is comfortable on the eyes and is good with icons on top of it. you can say its bland, boring, unimaginative.. but not only do i disagree, so many other things that have gotten through moderation are far less -functional-. if you don't like that arguement, then : if you want to block out something based on certain attributes, you have to block out all things with those attributes. this means the same exact image made in terregen, the same image with contrast up the wazzo, or the same image with sphrical glossy objects on it. or, maybe he just has to put 'longhorne' on it.

at the very least this could get lumped with other landscapes like it in the 'landscapes' folder. if people dont want that style they dont have to look there. provided this is not stock from some photo company, i give the shot credit. i know a lot of people who would enjoy it. the fact is - it makes for a good wall paper.

remember that dolphins and barbie are old and boring to the rest of us.. but in the cubicals surrounding me are some people who love that kind of stuff. just because we're used to seeing vector artwork in 16000 colors doesn't mean these people don't have taste as well. if it is of quality and took some kind of skill, and photography takes skill, then it has value. we're not elitists (or are we?). you people got here by doing a search for 'wall papers' on google just like my trendy blonde-haired secretary did. of course she can no longer find her dolphins, she just finds abstract colorful shapes that hurt her eyes.

go on. get out your popcorn, but don't worry i'm not looking for a fight just my 2 cents. asphyx, its a great shot even if it didnt make it to the boards.

I'm actually the one who moderated it.

It was rejected because (in order):
1) I have seen over 100 images that look almost exactly like it
2) It looks like a "button pushing" generation
3) It's not interesting
4) It doesn't work great as a wallpaper, especially since the majority uses white icons and prefer non-blinding bright wallpapers.

Just because something makes a pretty picture does not make it a good wallpaper.  Try something creative- it will get you farther than the "easy" stuff.

/me steps out of the backwoods and fires off a round into the soapbox, saying to himself "Got no use for it anyhow." He is amused by how much airtime some of the chunks of debris get.

Though I don't particularly care this wallpaper, looks too much like the area of the country I live in after someone clear-cut it, I agree with what basically, I think, DesignCaddy is saying....wallpaper is subjective to individual tastes.....and I think of all the categories of downloads here, wallpaper should be treated differently than the "skins" available here.

1. Wallpaper should be delated from site after download levels to a certain average. Artist's with themed wallpaper can include them with their WB skins to avoid delations.

2. A wider array of wallpaper submissions should be accepted to appeal to a greater audience, since a greater variety of folks are now using computers (PC's are not just for geeks anymore). This in turn would hopefully increase subscriptions.

3. Since, I think that most people rate wallpaper based on personal taste (not everyone is a graphic artist, photographer or designer), there shouldn't be any ratings for them.

bad assumption, lass..if all moderation were done based on what you felt the community wanted (or by what download numbers showed, as that would have to be what you're basing on) you'd be screwing the rest of the world out of having an alternative choice. 'n that just 'aint fair.

i think its really white but text is still readable and it doesn't blind me. i've seen much less functional walls.

side note: just looked over at my associate's computer screen - she's gone from bunnies to pink dolphins

when you upload wall after wall some make it some don't...thats life. But what really bugs me is people who insist in uploading minimal effort and as Jafo said very common works that scream out for a brightness tweaker built in, then complain it got rejected as its "as good as the rest".

Don't rely on programs etc to make you a wall, rely on whats in your imagination.

DesignCaddy....the problem with images such as this is their commonality.  With over One Million members, each capable of uploading/submitting walls, etc you will be guaranteed to receive slightly more than one extremely similar wall.

Now, as a wall 'collection' should we be obliged to retain/accept all permutations of a 'simple snowscape' [whatever] or just perhaps one or two of the 'first' of them?

Same goes with chrome balls and other basic objects floating over water, etc. [first one of those that caught my eye was done by Dangeruss years ago...[even he was learning once]]...

When it comes to landscapes the best chance for success [non-moderation] is to use imagination....perhaps a fictional scene....alien landscape perhaps, though most generated scenes are rejected for 'errors' such as unnaturally sharp shorelines - fake looking water, etc....
