Question about WindowBlinds Enhanced 4.2. This should be able to skin everything, right ? But maybe not on Win2K? I noticed that the taskbar is not totally skinned right (I am trying out the Alpha OS skin). And the wallpaper didn't show up, I had to manually set it. Would this particular skin be considered to be for WinXP? Are there good Win2000 skins that change nearly everything, or is that not possible on Win2000?

In the older WB skins there are a couple background tiles that don't get used in the newer version. One of these gets used to skin the taskbar in Win98 & 2k. It's just a backgrond tile though, no handles or other stuff.  The buttons are also different than the XP ones, it will use the regular buttons, not special taskbar buttons.

All the XP enhancements, Start Menu, Taskbar, Shell styles, etc. are only gonna show up if you're running XP. It's a tribute to WindowBlinds that it has always made such a huge difference in the appearance of your GUI, no matter what version of Windows you're running.

Sorry I'm confused. Are you saying that there is actually a possibility of getting some sort of skinning of the taskbar going in the lates version of WB? (I think that's what you're saying). Can you offer mor advice? For instance, what skins are currently available that support taskbar skinning for windows 2000.

Very keen to know more. You guys may have solved a big problem for me.

Nothing supports taskbar skinning for Windows 2k. You have to use Object Bar for that. Sorry if I was confusing.

Some older skins have a background tile that gets applied to the taskbar in Win2k. It is NOT taskbar skinning. It's just a bitmap that could even be a solid color. And most new skins wouldn't even have that file included.

thank you davidk for clearing that up. i was mistaken in the fact that it was actually being skinned. the background bitmap gave me the impression it was being skinned. heck it looks skinned ..

I think I have this problem solved now. I downloaded an app called Quick Shutdown which forces a shutdown of all apps. It won't let explorer hang. I set hot keys Ctrl+Shift+S for shutdown and Ctrl+Shift+R for restart. Works a treat!

I am a windows 2000 user, and I have the whole object desktop suite, and even that doesnt solve some of your problems. Explorer buttons are not skinned, taskbar is only partly skinned (unless I use object bar), and webviews, logon screens, start menu, and shutdown prompts remain the same. I'm not complaining or anything, but Im just sayin that many object desktop features will simply not work on windows 2000.
