Actually, many of them took W10 because it was a free upgrade. Not sure how many will actually buy into that program...but even a third would be $4 billion. Moral of the story is 'Free!' costs you.

Thinking about Apple more and more often.

Once 10 support is dropped from my applications I use, I will be swapping to linux. I already let most of my application subscriptions end recently. So im one step closer to the jump.

All you do is add 0patch .... pay for that....and keep win10 [or whichever] unadulterated by MS meddling...AND keep all those programs you have happily working.

The only time the Status Quo gets screwed up is by MS "updates" ruining your OS and/or the apps you use.

My time capsule is still running everything it needs to...just as it did in 2015 when I first turned it on.

Does one need an account with Microsoft to get this? I've been trying to avoid that and other registration since I started using windows 10.

I just fresh re-installed windows 10 as part of my yearly reset to start with a clean os. Im in it for the long haul now.

My Single OS install of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 has an uptime of 85,220 hours ...or 9 years 265 days 20 hours.

The longest continuous uptime was recently around 230 days between reboots.

Windows 10 is unlikely to ever be that 'stable', not when MS is still messing with it.

The lifetime of the SSDs is now the issue as the M.2 OS drive tells me it has around 2 more years to live.... so I'm preparing its replacement ...

I think you have gotten the wrong impression here. Windows 10 is a very stable and powerful OS. Many tests have been done to see if Windows 11 is actually faster or performs better than Windows 10 in different configurations and use cases. Windows 11 just doesn't perform better of faster than Windows 10. It's probably more secure, but that's more a function of the user, not the software or hardware.

The main reason a lot of users are sticking with Windows 10 is not that they wouldn't like to upgrade, but that they can't. These folks have hardware that doesn't meet the minimum requirements for Windows 11, and don't want, or can't afford, to buy a new computer just so they can upgrade to Windows 11. Microsoft has taken a position that forces people to buy new hardware just to increase their bottom line. So, users have taken a stand to keep their existing hardware and continue to use Windows 10.

And as far as being old, your time is coming! Embrace it and keep on keep'n on!   

Carl, yes, I was still in my 40s when I first got here so I'm a "little old" now, but apart from this machine running Windows 7 still, the other 6 machines all run 10, and Thermaltake Level 10 No 021 will also run 10.

So, 87.5% of my machines are on Windows 10, and 0.0% of them have been turned into land-fill by the MS demand you have updated hardware to run their precious Windows 11.  I do not CARE there may be a hack or work-around to get 11 to work, I am fundamentally opposed to the systemic waste created by forced obsolescence.

I am thoroughly disgusted by it.

None of this affects or diminishes my involvement/need to have graphical/functional augmentation via Stardock et al, as 7 of the machines have one proggy or more from SD on them and the 8th will too...once it has a system/hardware to actually boot.

BTW...even this machine runs Win 10 in a VM... but then it also runs Dos, Win 95, 98, XP, Vista, 7, 8, ReactOS, and if I get really adventurous I might try Windows ME - just so long as it doesn't brick the VM like it does with real systems....
