UK Christmas No. 1 - Mad World?

Here's the deal. I have quite a significant bet riding on 'Mad World' by Gary Jules being the UK Christmas No. 1 single. If it wins, I'll release a new WindowBlinds skin. If it doesn't, I won't.

So all the UK folks need to go and buy the single before this weekend. I command you!

Hey Kevin, I have the original on a 12" single by "Tears for Fears"!! Should be worth a few quid soon!

By the way..... I like the Gary Jules cover very much.

I hate all that coverversions of good Eighties tracks. And the youngsters don't even know that they are buying songs that were already made 20 years ago...

I agree Carl......most of the covers these days by the likes of Atomic Kitten etc, are just mind-numbingly bad, but this one by Gary Jules is pretty good, at least it puts a different perspective on the song, which to my mind is what covering a song is all about, not just using someone elses songwriting talents, as most of them seem to do.

Hmm, I think I have to listen to it.

I'm wanting Proper Crimbo to win based purely on the amazing feat of Leigh Francis somehow managing to get Matthew Wright and John Leslie in that video together.
Besides he'll need the cash as it probably took a huge cheque to get Leslie to agree to it............

The Gary Jules version sounds more lonely, more desolate, more sad than the original, and frankly, I prefer it

It's a superb cover version imo, surpassing the original. It was featured in the soundtrack of Donnie Darko and, for me, perfectly conjures the poignancy of that wonderful movie.

'Covers of 80s tracks'?.....the 80s tracks were just covers of 60s tracks.....

I think The Darkness will end up being number one

mmm, Tears for Fears, Adam Ant, and loads of others were not doing covers

Pour some Sugar on me would probably caused a bit of a tiff back in 1940

That's not the attitude Valhalla. Go and buy Mad World immediately and you shall be forgiven.

As I see it, there are three main contenders for the top spot. Pop Idol shouldn't win because... well... it's Pop Idol. The Darkness shouldn't win because they have plenty of time for number ones. So vote Gary Jules for President! Or something...

Well anything is better than Britney Spears even in the UK.

(just a joke)

Only you people have twerps like Britney...

I agree with c242... Makes me cringe everytime I hear somebody refer to "Behind BLue Eyes" as being by Limp Biskit.  How many young people know that it's an absolute classic from THE WHO, not by Limp Biskit!  Besides, the Limp Biskit version is not even an interpretation, it's a just poor imitation. There is not even the slightest effort to make a personnal, original interpretation.

Whatever.
OK, so I misspelled misspelled words.

@ Grayhaze.
I heard on Capital radio from Foxy that Gary Jules and The Darkness are both outselling The Idols by 3 to 1!

Hmmm..... Has anyone else heard that Noddy is releasing a Christmas single?

Expect a new skin for the new year.
