New Object Dock is terrible....

Well as frustrating as it can be, when devs are "trying" to make thier programs better for you complaining never helps them much but using your energy to give them the info such as your OS, the error msg you're getting etc, usualy does help much more

Maybe listing what works about it and what doesn't seem to work about it in an email to the support email address with a system configuration added to it would help fix the issues?

Hmm, very confusing. You say that object dock won't even load. But, then you say if you click an object and go to configure dock, it closes with an error massage. So, obviously, it is loading or you couldn't right click an object or go to configure dock. Very confusing. Still, maybe you should try uninstalling the program and clearing out the directory. Maybe you have conflicts between the two versions, or maybe the two versions were installed in different locations.

oh, PS: don't reboot, alt-crtl-del, find the explorer.exe process in the list and terminate it, then hit alt-f and load "explorer.exe" so it will load a new instance of the shell. Then you can do what changes you need and reboot clean.

Might want to kill ObjectDock process while your killing Explorer also if it is showing up...

We've found one bug that can cause it to crash after associating a new image with an object so far. Will be getting that fixed in another build.

I suggest wiping your dock directory and starting from a fresh install. And then posting the error message you get.

I had some of the problems stated above ( failing to restart the Windows taskbar., etc. ). I uninstalled and deleted all previous files, and now it seems to work fine. There are two reasons to return to a developer's site to talk about bugs; either to help out or dissuade others from using the product. Scooby doesn't seem to want to help out.

still crashing here when trying to load a JPG image with the DockletLoadGDIPlus(char* file) function.
The funny thing is that when I am only changing the extension from .jpg to .png it loads fine, but this totally screws my Media Library concept for now

I Should send an e-mail to the author about this and many other SDK errors, but too lazy now.

My mistake by sayin it doesnt load it does, but I get the simple error message of a non responding program. This happens whenever I right click or click certain icons, such as the configure one. I did Uninstall orginal version, I cleared the directory, and installed new version and I am still getting new problem... I lvoe this program but I mean doesnt Stardock TTTEEESSSSTTTTT their stuff before they release it?

It's called "Pre-Release" or "Beta" software, hopefully you've heard of those terms. Plus, if I recall correctly, the ObjectDock site says it's unsupported free or beta software ... hmmmm

Scooby, believe it or not, the problem is with your computer. Object dock works great on my system. It is memory intensive, but hopefully that will improve later. Maybe you have too many programs preloaded, spyware, low memory resources(Object dock is a big memory user) etc. Your problem definitely sounds like a memory issue. You didn't say how much Ram you have. Nor, background programs running, you didn't say whether you ran a full system virus scan. You didn't say whether you have checked your system for spyware. Try loading sysmetrix and see how much ram is available before running OD. Hmm windows toolbar?

Why should you see your windows toolbar if you are loading OD to display on your desktop? Better yet, what windows toolbar? Are you running two different docking programs?

Uninstalled and still getting new problem? Hmm.
New problem? Does that mean the old problem was fixed with uninstalling and wiping the directories? What is the new problem now?

evrything fine here. From past experience I renamed my Object Dock directory> installed> then moved all my stuff over. It is sometimes memory intensive & sometimes I kill it and restart it.I'm running 512MB DDR Ram on a P4-1.6 GHz

no problem here either and it has only crashed on me once... when i tried to change the icons on my mailbox. I wonder if its his operating system. I've got xp pro.

I wish it were more memory intensive(memory is cheap!)...it would run smoother.As it is,it pages a lot of files,then has to retrieve them off the HD(you can seeit happening)making it animate jerky .Especially the animated shortcuts.Still wouldnt part with it.

Hmmm seems wierd, some recommended that I make sure I had no spyware, so I got rid of the few I had on a new Adaware scan, I reinstalled and now it works... Not sure if thats why, but it works now, I occosianally still get a Not responding message and it closes, but I am running a 1.6 GHz and 640 MB of ram, so I doubt its my pc...

one prob that I have with the new build is that I can't run two instances of internet explorer while OD is running I also can't seem to create internet shortcuts and have them work....I'll click on that object and it doesn't do anything. The previews version didn't have this problem. Anyone know a fix?.............I love my OD though

When I make Internet Explorer shortcuts, I just make a shortcut with these parameters:

Link: "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" <- Needs quotes.

Arguments: https://www.wincustomize.com <- Whatever url you want it to be.

I tried that but when I wanna open a second instance of internet explorer using that method, it just brings up the internet explorer that I currently have open.

Windows handles memory in a strange way. The more memory you have, the more memory it absorbs. But, Windows XP seems to handle it better than W98.

Scooby, I suggest you get rid of Adaware and get "Spybot Search and Destroy. It's a better Spyware Eliminator by far and free. Those spyware programs can really mess up a system. It seems that you found a few. I'm glad its working for you now. What happens is that spyware programs steal most of your memory, tracking everything you do, and transmit information and even credit card info when you go online. And, when you try to launch one of your programs, and do something that requires more memory, there is no memory left to use. Hence, the program crashes or maybe even your system crashes. Good luck.
