It's a tour of Loghorn targeted towards coders, not the general public.
They want developers to start making Longhorn apps now, so that 3 years down the road, there are Longhorn optimized software out there as an incentive forthe public to buy it.

To which I imagine developers to reply "No thank you." Why would you develop something now, or start doing so, so that a year or two later (a year or two given for development time, of course,) you can release something? Would any software house want to sit on something for that long?

They can develop something and sit on it, or develop something and sell it now? Nah.

Besides, hopefully, by the time Longhorn gets released, 32 bit architecture will be all but dead. That is of course, if you can convince AMD and Intel to drop their 32 bit offerings (and have them be able to make 64 bit affordably,) before then.

The code looks yakkie : . No c# for me; I hope we can stick to good ol' compiled c and c++ on longhorn, instead of that ugly c#/.NET code.

c/c++ will still be usable I am sure, though the OS and interpreter will be optimized for c# no doubt.

I actually like c++

although .NET is very impressive to me such that different platforms and code can 'talk' to each other. If I am running .NET I can talk to DB2 and Oracle from one program. (so it says)

Some will because they want to get ready for the OS. For them is will be R&D (research and development) of which is very important for any company.

They will get the jump on the OS and say that it runs better and does more than the competitor.

Its a balance between what you can make and what other thing you can do with your time. Fundamental economic principle of making one thing with limited resources Vs. doing something else with those same resource (or some balance in between)

I wonder if Longhorn will be a 64 bit OS? with the new processors hitting the market that are 64 bit it better be.

I hope it will be 64 bit, as impressed as I am with what I have seen of Longhorn, it'd be nice to see it really flex on a 64 bit platform.

Only time will tell, but I don't think it will be solely 64-bit, they will probably make editions like they are for XP. I wonder what the real name is gonna be? Before XP was XP, it was 'Code-Name Whistler'...any ideas as to what Longhorn will be? I hope they be a little creative and not call it "Windows XP Second-Edition", I'll be really mad is MS does something like that...

No, Longhorn and Blackcomb are just code names while the product is under development. Just like XP was code named Whisler. I'm still betting on Windows XP 2006 (notice the XP there).

Thay shud call it Windows Trecherus becuse it runs Trecherus programs (reed the article uv Trecherus programs for more informasen about this, basicly you can only do wat thay only alow you to do. It can also run normal programs, and Trecherus programing can also be turned of as well).
