CAROLYN SIREK....this is NOT America.....this is a privately owned and publicly accessible website which has rules of conduct, some of which do not impinge on your flawed perception of 'freedom of speech', and some that do......we'd rather you accepted and respected the manners and conduct of this 'private' place as you would when visiting any neighbour's property or home....

Styl...yes, the site is Hosted in the US....but it's governed by rules of our Community's making, not the US Constitution, or the Geneva Convention, or the Diet of Worms, Magna Carta, or any other such treatise...

While I agree totally with all of you about the CAPS, a more diplomatic way of telling someone NOT to use them could have been used. There are lots of people that don't understand "netiquette". While there is nothing wrong with any of the comments that were made, the offender ended up being the offended.

I think that CurleySue might not have known about "netiquette". If it had been patiently explained to her/him the whole exchange might have been avoided. Simply telling someone to stop isn't very diplomatic. I know no one has to be diplomatic, but it does help.

CuleySue, if you read this, Any website, no matter where it is hosted, can be accessed globally. So the statement

just doesn't apply anywhere on the net. I would assume there is a fairly large percentage of the visitors of this site that are not American.

People who like typing in all caps must be lazy since they don't wish to be bothered in hitting the shift key to type like "normal" . Although there is nothing wrong with typing in all lower case, yet hardly anyone does.

I do agree though that education should come first when it comes to someone not following netiquette. It is entirely possible this person hasn't been online very long and/or is underage. Just as we don't know where everyone is from unless we ask, its the same with age.
It can be easy to assume that everyone who comes to a website is knowledgable in the basics, but unfortunately that isn't true.
Its just a matter of those who frequent a site having to go for the lowest common denominator when "scolding" someone. It doesn't help to run off new visitors when they "break" the rules, especially when aside from the CAPS which I dislike immensely this person was simply seeking answers, not out to cause trouble.

She made it clearly that she liked the caps on and she showed no intentions of turning them off. All this and she didnt even say Thank you for the help that was provided to her.

I dont think she is going to have a stroke by turning off the caps, instead she chosed to be defiant.

Off to torment someone else I guess... Seems she doesn't understand it's not about 'Freedom' it's about 'Etiquette'.

It is pretty funny how irritated we all get when someone comes walking in with 'Caps On'

I have to admit...When I first plugged into the internet I used caps a lot too but was quickly shown the light

Old people who can't read small prints might use CAPS. I have a hard time reading small print. I don't use Caps for here. I can read fine.

Rocky Admin.....None of the responses in this thread was objectionable or antagonistic. The problem was with the assumption that Wincustomize.com [the site] IS America [the country]. It isn't. Wincustomize.com is the sum of its parts, currently over 700,000 of them, as it is a 'community' site with a community's rules....

I think you all have valid points. I also agree that "curly sue" was being overly antagonistic. Maybe she had a bad day. But what's with throwing her real name out there? She might use it elsewhere on the net, and anyone visiting this sight now has a possible i.d. on "curly sue". Even worse, she might be blamed by anyone who sees this thread for anything any "curly sue" does elsewhere on the net. This may not be America but this is an issue of a person's right to privacy.
