Advice Needed--laptop shopping

Due to a fortunate mixup, I may soon be in the market for a new laptop computer. Do you have any recommendations? It has to be less than $1000, preferably $800. I was thinking of the Sony VAIO PCG-FR130, which I can get at the bestbuy website for $1150 - 250 rebates = $900. Is that a good computer, or are there any better ones I should get?

Thanks!

I vote for a Dell Inspiron.Even the 'Lower end' models are still quite good and can be purchased for under 1k. Think P4 2+ghz and 256mb or more ram.

I am using a dell latitude. i have bought from them in the past. customer service is top notch and no other can touch them for satisfaction! I just wish they would get away from Intel. Then I would buy from them again.

again, like everyone else im gonna suggest dells, ive had not a single problem with my inspiron 7500 (aka the brick). Im an AMD user but i would have to say that intel makes better laptop chips

Is there a store that sells Dells, or do I have to order off of their website? I'd really like to see the laptop before I buy it.
