New Version will not group

I have been using Groupy for several months now on a Windows 7-32 bit machine.  With the lastest automatic update, I can no longer group windows.  I even tried purchasing a new copy (I rely on it heavy) and the new copy does not work.  It there a way to download and regress to an earlier version?

Thanks!

Hello,

Could you try to uninstalled and reboot. Than reinstall the new version. See if that work and report back. Thanks

I did as suggested and found the following:

Immediately after reinstalling, two folders were able to be grouped.  I closed both (grouped) folders and opened two Excel files.  They could not be grouped.  I opened two Word files and they would not group.  I then went back at tried grouping the first two folders and they would no longer group.  Other applications that I tried to group failed as well.

As a aside, Task Managers shows that both "GroupyHelp2.exe" and "GroupySrv.exe" are running even when grouping does not work.

Hope this in some way helps!

Thanks for looking into this.

Did you turn on the auto group function? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHCs5lDqnFs

One additional follow-up in case it is helpful.  After the previous try (uninstalling / reinstalling Groupy, grouping two folders, closing, and then trying to unsuccessfully group Word, Excel, the original two folders and other applications), I tried rebooting again, this time *without* uninstalling and reinstalling.  Folders again grouped as before, but this time I did not close the grouped folders.  Tried opening Excel and adding that to the two-folder group.  I got the message below:

Prior to that message, Windows task manager also showed "Groupy.exe" running (in addition to GroupSrv.exe and GroupyHelp32.exe.  After the message, Group.exe had disappeared from task manager.

I have written something that should work for you.

Download the following, extract, and run it.  Be mindful of the prompt at the end - to make sure you have everything closed before you continue:

Let me know....

Thank you for working on the batch file.  While the batch file appears to have worked as you expected (all Groupy related processes were terminated and the c:\program files\stardock\groupy directory was completely removed), the problem was still not solved.  After running the batch file (which rebooted my system as expected), I then reinstalled Groupy as per my 3/12/2018 download from the Stardock site.  Same pattern as before, though I have more information.

(1) I am able to group any application (or at least the two dozen or so that I tried) except for Word, Powerpoint, or Excel.  These three seem to cause Groupy to crash.  Interestingly, Access does not cause Groupy to crash..  (Though are the only four Office 365 applications that I use.)

(2) I tried running the three in "safe mode" (pressing the Ctrl key when opening and responding appropriately to the startup message.)  Even in safe mode, Groupy still crashed when using these three applications.

When I first posted on the forum, I'd asked whether I might download a prior version of Groupy.  Is this possible?  It might help in figuring out whether the issue is indeed with the latest version (or perhaps something else on my system that is corrupted, though I have no idea what this might be.)  And it should allow me to get going again with Groupy ...

Thanks,

Meade

And yet one more bit of information.  There was a text message that disappeared before I was able to read it when I ran your batch file.  I put a 'pause' statement into the batch file before the 'cls' and the message was as follows:

As mentioned in my first post, I'm running the 32bit version of Window 7.  Is that in some way related?  (I would expect Groupy not to work at all if that was the case, but thought I should check.)

I had kept the previous version of Groupy. Uninstalled the new version, installed the older one and everything is working fine. I will wait till Stardock comes up with a solution.  Meade I am perfectly willing to send you my older version (from Januari 19 2018), but am sure that Stardock can provide an older verison as well.

Thank you for the offer to send the older version and to let me know that you're on Windows 10-64.  I hope Stardock will supply the older version, but if not I'll reach out to you again for yours.

Much appreciated!

We believe we have found the cause of this.

However it applies to 32 bit only versions of Windows.

Any issues on 64 bit versions will be an unrelated issue.
