Office 2016 Groups

Office 2016 Groups

I was under the impression that you could open a bunch of spreadsheets, save the group and then Groupy would open them all back up again for you...

Am I mistaken?  It only open back up empty spreadsheets, i.e. Book1, Book2, etc, not the named ones I had open when I created the group.

DL'd the beta. Version 1.11 verified. Problem still exists in Excel. (Group of notepad files worked fine.)

And, yes, I make a new group each time I test......

Unfortunately it would appear that your version of Excel may not be returning filenames to Groupy.

As a test open an excel file and hold ctrl down when clicking on the three dots menu.  The menu should have an extra Debug submenu at the bottom.  What does this sub menu say in it?

It is returning the file path, but NOT the local file path - it is returning the online Live.net file path even though I am opening the local file. This is probably why the *.groupy needs to be manually edited.

Since all of my files are stored in my OneDrive folder, it seems that this is a problem!

That is very useful information.

I am confident that now we know whats up we can modify Groupy to handle the case of files stored on OneDrive with Excel.

Working fine with 1.11 beta so far. Tried only local files so far.

Thanks

I have the same problem.   Office 2016 and Groupy 1.1.

Saved group just reopens blank documents.  Not what I wanted to see at all.  Should have reopened word and excel documents for me to work on.

Need a fix.

Okay, good to know. Thanks

Well, it's returning the *.live.net filename now, but Excel can't find it that way as the file is actually local, so I got an error with each file in the group. OR, it needed filenames WITHOUT spaces... Perhaps I'll test that next.
