Anybody using an older system?

The other thread (What kind of rig you running? List your PC!!!) has people all proudly listing their state of the art system. I'm wondering if the people with a more modest system aren't just too intimidated by all those Gigahetz computers.

So, who has a computer with a processor lower than, say 1 Ghz?
I'm mean as your main computer, not as a peice of collection.

As I said in the other thread, mine is a Celeron 333. It's just about did its time. I usually last a computer until it doesn't meet the minimum system requirements on most new software. New games right now require a minium of a 366 Mhz. So, I should be buying a new computer within the next year or so.

My main computer is a 750 mhz pentium with a geforce2 card, 256 meg RAM, 2 hard drives: 20 gig and 160 gig, and a cheap soundblater card.

My other computer is a 450 mhz pentium, with a geforece1 card, 256 meg RAM ad 2 hard drives: an 8 gig and a 15 gig.

Both systems are 4 or 5 or so years old.

Both are okay but ultimately inadequate for the stuff I do. I was going to buy a new desktop computer, but my laptop died, and its looks like I'll have to replace that first before considering a new desktop

My home computer is an AMD K6 about 550 mHz if I recall. We do have an old 486 running Windows 98 that the kids sometime use for wordprocessing and similar low end homework stuff. It may be the only win98 machine that goes for weeks without a crash - of course that's because it's easier to keep it running and it only gets used every few weeks.

(When i say worst, i mean for its time...Id have Win ME over win 3.1 any day...but for its time, win 3.1 was very good) Actually, this comp doesnt work too bad...the only thing Id like is a better gfx card and a bigger monitor...

My PC at home is a 2gig screamer...but I use some fossils at work!

Right now I'm using an old HP Pavilion.

P1-166
8x cd-rom
64mb EDO RAM <~They still make this?????
4GB Hard drive
19" Sony monitor stolen from a Dell workstation (they upgraded to LCD's)

We also have a bunch of 486's in storage somewhere, I think they still work but not much use other than an ugly paperweight.

The rest of the computers in our warehouse are p3-500's or better. How come they stick me with the antique???

/me is planning on relocating to a nice new office...

486 DX4-100 was a decent machine....can still be of genuine use [not just a paperweight]
My first delving into Photoshop was done on a P100 with 8meg ram...[yep, it was coffee making time when PS was loading]...

Now, my 'main' unit is a P111/500 with a Geforce 2 32meg and a gig of PC133 running at 100 on a Abit BX6 motherboard [slot 1].

At least my box is classy...450watt P4 Lian Li Aluminium with 3 case fans...

Windows 98 Celron 380 with 64 RAM... that's it.

The other one is Win 98 Intel II with 250 mhz and 64 RAM

See what I aint making many skins? The computer crashes or the program crashes (not in that order)

I don't know many people who have Win 2000 or XP. At home its usually window 98 and at work its Win NT

I remember not that long ago, going to a computer swap-meet and seeing all those people trying to upgrade their systems to all the modern bits, and me thinking 'ha, I already got the second-fastest cpu, etc available' and not actually needing anything.
Now? People think of it as a book-end.
It's really sad...
