W10’s Update/upgrade schedule

Ya if there were ever a version of Windows that encouraged the "Wait and see" approach, I'd think this would be it.
Most of you need to take a few hours and read "Who Moved My Cheese?" by Spencer Johnson.
And what happens if one buys a used PC or laptop that has Pro on it that gone beyond those 8 months due to it sitting on a shelf somewhere? No updates forever, or buy a copy of the OS to do a complete reinstall?
The entire concept stinks.
benmanns, from the tiny amount that I have seen and read regarding the issue, the ONLY licences that can get the LONG TERM service branch are the ENTERPRISE licences, all other licenses are either the 'get it NOW and suffer the problems'(home) or the 'get it within 8 months or LOSE the licence'(pro) branches

I see they're shamelessly using MSN to push its release as a 'news' story today. Lead panel.
i seriously don't understand what the hang up is about 8 months. if a machine has been sitting on the shelf for 8 months.. then when someone buys it and turn it on.. one would imagine it'll have a load of old updates autoinstalled as soon as it connects to the net. to bring it up to speed in stages... before dumping yet another load of updates after that. sort of like you have to install sp1 before sp2, etc, except it'll be automatically done if it hasn't been manually done before the date is up.
unless it stays offline totally.. in which case it's moot.
the many download and install updates, then reboot and repeat happens in win7 & 8 as well, and also can cause the dreaded 'update(s) failed to install restoring to previous state and reboot', then re-download and install all the updates, rinse & repeat

far more concerning than forced updates. wonder if anyone dug through and compared the eula between the beta and retail.. especially the keylogging bits.

That issue would merit its own post for wider exposure - I'd encourage you to make it one as you brought it to the table. And thanks for doing so.
Well I reserved my "free copy" of W10, I hope I have the choice of installing it when I want too. It certainly saeems like a wise course of action to wait and see for now.
Windows update - the main reason we have backups ![]()
I couldn't get the invite for some reason. (Yes I meet all the requirements, and have the necessary updates).
Here's a direct download site.

Nonetheless, I'm going to wait a while before I upgrade, as Win 7 is working just fine.
btw... if you plan on upgrading... have a look at your antivirus/security suite for proper compatibility 1st... for example, from what i read in their forum, kaspersky 2016 is supposedly compatible but apparently has some caveats. and bugs.
not to mention what steps to take (with the av/etc) to prepare for the upgrade
