Insane Map w/ 70+ factions unable to save v1.03 and earlier

First off is anyone else seeing this?  (I know there may not be too many games or players out there that play these game settings.)  

Game Settings...

50+ factions (my current game near 80-90 factions).

Insane Map

Abundant Stars.

Abundant Planets.

All Minor Races.

Issue I'm running into, around turn 300 give or take (One game started in 1.0 one game started in 1.02) Currently running 1.03.  Game plays fine up to this point.  All of a sudden the auto save starts to cause game to crash and the game is unable to continue with auto save turned on.  If you disable auto save the game will continue, however, you are unable to save.  The save button clicks but does nothing.

The bad part is these games are long and it takes forever to get to this point.  the first game has near 50 hours of game time the second has 25 hours (give or take 3 hours on both.)  I would like to eventually play one of these games to completion.

No Dump files :( for crashes...

I too would love to play one of these games to completion too.  Unfortunately, given the tediousness of it, I don't believe it's possible right now.

I had this problem at either 1.0.1 or 1.0.2.  Made a backup of my GC III folder in My Doocuments, did a complete reinstall from scratch (ie deleted EVERYTHING in the Steam folder and then reinstalled) plopped over my save file, ship designs, and race logo/portraits and I've had clear sailing since (found out I did have to manually put in an Autosave file for Auto save to work for whatever reason).  No idea why a reinstall worked for me.  Maybe too many saves in the save folder?  Especially since a ton of them are no longer compatible.  Dunno. Bur I had the exact same issue as Seilore, and that's what did it for me.

I had the same problem in 1.00 and 1.01 (also send a ticket in), but my insane game with 70+ worked fine at the end of 1.02 and I was able to finally finish one

How long did it take? I'm sort of curious. What sort of victory? Doesn't it get a little tedious later on?

Yeah, I tried that with no luck, I've already cleared out all older games, only have 8 games in my save foldeer.

At the end I took a scientific victory, but I have to say; the game gets a bit boring after a certain stage...your advantage keeps growing and growing, until there are no real opponents left. I was even wondering what would happen when I decided to leave the UP, maybe that would make things interesting again ;-)

That's why I'm afraid of playing the insane maps.  Even on immense it gets really boring after a while. That and the whole "the game might crash in the middle of it" bug.  These ARE legitimate concerns. 

Let the Developers know about it.  I certainly will.
